shaun1.6ghia Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Hi guys, i know this has probably came up before but ive recently had big problems with window rubbers in my mk2 escort (with chrome strips). i bought front and rear rubbers from east kent and they seemed too small and didnt have the right angle on the join which ended up splitting and letting in large amounts of water. My friend bought a similar rubber (without chrome strip) and had exactly the same problem... these rubbers are expensive so i cant afford to keep buying wrong ones so please help me find some that fit so i keep a floor in my beloved car
jimbo Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 These guys always seem to be talked about in a good light http://www.aldridge.co.uk/
Grizzley Dell Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 yeah very happy with all the parts i got from them.
Mrs O/H/C Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Had plenty of things from East Kent Trim..no problems at all
914Driver Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 If the folks that sold you the rubbers insist they are correct, show them what happened. Some compensation or at least guidance is in order. Dan
antz Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 i only use aldridge. costs more but you get what you pay for
shaun1.6ghia Posted February 13, 2010 Author Report Posted February 13, 2010 Thanks guys, the only problem is that i don't have the reciept anymore and i had to chop it up just to get some seal over these harsh winter months (every day driver) unfortunately i had it put in by the professional vinyl roof people but i'll be doing it myself this time..... Ants: you have the chrome window rubbers too dont you?!!? you got it from aldridge trim yeah?? i'll email them then n let you know how i get on, as getting the right fitting rubbers will help us all keep our fords on the road. any other people had the same problem? thanks again
antz Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 yes i do have the chrome trim rubbers. You can even get the chrome trim from aldridge. my dads got a rear screen rubber for his mk1 from them and it fitted perfect. no leaks at all and the autoglass guy said 'if only they were all that easy'
livewire7116 Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 you can even get the inserts in black
Tall paul Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Ive had problems with the east kent trim ones too seemed to short on the corners and once it was in had big holes which let the weather in too. Ended up getting hold of a good second one. Ive heard of a couple of people having problems with them and problems with the chrome/black plastic trim that fits on roof drip rail.

Dont get me started on the gutter trim!!!!!! I needed to replace mine and bought a EKT one. They dont fit tight so they rattle and move, they dont fit round the rear bend on the 4 door and they lost their chrome really quickly. all in all a real waste of time. I ended up forking out £150 for a pair of genuein ford NOS black ones because I couldnt get chrome and refused to use EKT ones again
Tall paul Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 I wanted to change mine as the chrome has gone abit yellow but i also refuse to get them from there after trying to get some black ones to fit on a friends 2 Door a couple of years ago. I'll keep my eye out to see if anyone else starts doing them.

I don't think we should have to put up with this for £70 for a pair. if anyone has any help please message me thank you
jimbo Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Sorry to hear that mate........Perhaps they just resell the same ones EKT sell? In both cases, follow the advise here. http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38102.html If the goods aren't up to the jobs, the Sale of Goods Act 1966 and the distance selling regulations will see you through to a full refund including postage. I did post a masterclass on complaining but it's in a room that was deleted
shaun1.6ghia Posted February 27, 2010 Author Report Posted February 27, 2010 JUst an update, i have found a company that make the rubber so you cut and join it at your own size and shape. I'm thinking about heating a length up and making a single piece window rubber (like a mk1 escort) for my mk2 escort. I really have to get this sorted as there's enough water in my footwell to keep goldfish and its just as bad EVERY DAY!!! :'( Sorry to hear that mate........Perhaps they just resell the same ones EKT sell? I did post a masterclass on complaining but it's in a room that was deleted I may have to do something as i bought a set from EKT and Auldrige trim and they have the same problems, they seem to push out at the joined corners too. I've spent £150 ish and its scareng me about it starting to rust my floor out soon any help guys?

GT_lenny Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 don't want sound like some kid telling folks how to suck eggs but are you putting the rubbers in red hot water for a few minutes prior to fitting ? give em a good pull and stretch before they go in . ive removed original rubbers before -stored them for a month or two and then they wont go back in (seriously too short) till they were warm and stretchy again sorry if you've tried all this to no avail
livewire7116 Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 i fitted set of aldridge rubbers to a mk1 historic last year and must say they fitted lovely with no warming up or stretching, nice tight fit and sat lovely, but after 13 years fitting screens its childs play to me, done some ekt ones as well and must say there is no comparison, "BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE"
shaun1.6ghia Posted March 1, 2010 Author Report Posted March 1, 2010 don't want sound like some kid telling folks how to suck eggs but are you putting the rubbers in red hot water for a few minutes prior to fitting ? give em a good pull and stretch before they go in . ive removed original rubbers before -stored them for a month or two and then they wont go back in (seriously too short) till they were warm and stretchy again sorry if you've tried all this to no avail its the actual angle of the corners of the mk2, they don't fit the shape of the screen, and yes i did pre heat them. The problem is if you cut the corners and angle them correctly the rubber is then too short... i have a set from aldridge still in the packaging with corners that are splitting already. i only bought these 2 weeks ago and havent even put them neaR a window yet!!! my friend got a set of mk1 window rubbers a few months back and they fitted lovely, its the joins at the bottom of the windows on the mk2 that are the problem. well back to the drawing board, im going to a company that make the rubber by length today and going to make my own. p.s. i dont personally think £75 is cheap for a window rubber especially when its made badly
shaun1.6ghia Posted March 1, 2010 Author Report Posted March 1, 2010 sorry wern't £75 it was £81 posted for a pair. Spoke to auldrige trim 2day, they were very helpfull in offering my money back but i'm still stuck with no rubber and a wet floor...... auldrige buy the rubbers from another company so couldn't re make or fix the rubber unfortunately although they were very friendly (and i have no problems with them), unfortunately i can't find a good front screen rubber for a mk2 escort. just put the back one in as it looked top noch but i think i'll end up cutting and melting the corners to a proper shape. hope this helps anyone....
