Grizzley Dell Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 whats a good primer to use on running gear and springs? thanks.
GT_lenny Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 if you can afford it get them powder coated, especially the springs or use a good quality zinc primer and paint with por 15 it goes on very nice even with a brush which means its going on thicker ie better protection
vibrating_Cake Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 hammerite or powdercoating stonechip proof primer is also very handy to use, followed by hammerite. gives the paint that little bit more "flex" to absorb chipping
Skoty Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 yer id say hammerite. but powder coating is the best option.
Admin Vista Posted February 14, 2010 Admin Report Posted February 14, 2010 Powder coating springs? Wouldn't it crack off as the springs flex through compression and expansion?
lead foot Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 i used 2k paint on mine with no probs
GT_lenny Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Powder coating springs? Wouldn't it crack off as the springs flex through compression and expansion? most springs are powder coated when new?
Grizzley Dell Posted February 14, 2010 Author Report Posted February 14, 2010 cheers folks, i reckon its gonna be hammerite as it looks like the cheaper option. much appreciated.
andygfc Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Rustoleum is a similar product to hammerite, but much easier to use, and it can be thinned with white spirit. Bigger choice of colours too Good decorating shops will have it
GT_lenny Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 all you guys using hammerite need to try POR seriously its like an enamel finish even when brushed
