i would just leave it 4 door

technically you can but its a lot of time and expense which isnt really necessary when you can just buy either a 4 door or a 2 door.

 

why go to all the effort of making your own sugar puffs when you can buy them?

If you have a good 4 door and don't want to spend thousands on a 2 door and don't mind hours of cutting/welding, then why not

As said above its just not worth bothering with, either wait for a two door to come up or just be happy with a four door. If you need something 2 door to build up as a rally car asap maybe look at a MKIII/IV (RWD convert).

If its done properly I don't see why not. These cars are only held together with half a dozen spot welds from the factory.

Unfortunately a standard mk1 escort will fail the test.

The interiors aren't up to spec for a start (switches/radii/door handles etc etc). Thats before you even start thinking about glass and the points system in regards to any parts you've changed.

Basically, the best thing to do at the moment is hold off any 'big' mods until the waters are cleared, or crack on with your build in the knowledge you'll have some hoops to jump through at a later date.

 

EDIT ---- Also, you could do a lot worse than to keep upto date at the ACE website

i dont think this new test thing is as bad as some of you guys think

 

you get loads of points for big parts that are original

 

ie shell braking system braking system susspension

 

and anyway how are they gonna know if youve got original parts or not

 

for example if youve fitted say 2.8i brakes to a 1.3 escort i bet the tester wouldnt even notice

 

i know thats only a little example

 

if someone was to buy a fooked 2 door escort and log book and then make a decent 4 door shell into 2 door and did a nice job of it the tester wouldnt notice

In my opionion id say save up and buy a 2dr, don't go and ruin a nice 4dr escort, althoo if its a mk1 i would prob say yes, theres just sumink about them i dont like, think its where the rear door meets the front, why did they have to move the handle up higher lol totally ruins the car..

 

still say buy a 2dr, mines on ebay

If u are a competant body man, why not. Zetecmk2 on here did it to a mk2 Tina and did a cracking job.
