sitting_budda Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Has anyone had any issues fitting a propshaft in to a type 9 box? I can't get the input shaft into the tailhousing far enough. It only seems to go in about 1.5 inches. Its a brand new RS 2000 propshaft. It looks it needs to go in another inch or 2 so that it'll bolt up to the diff. Its in a mk1 escort with an RS 2000 alloy bellhousing if it makes any difference.
Ken B Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Sounds like the whitemetal bush behind the gearbox rear seal is damaged. You can get new ones easily enough, but replacing in the vehicle is a right a***.

gearbox100 Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 If i remember correctly somebody else on here had the same problem , in the end it was a bad new batch of props . I`m sorry i cant remember who or where they got the prob from sorry , but might be worth checking before you order new parts.
mk1rob Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 I had the same problem with mine after taking the gearbox out and putting it back in. I couldnt get the prop to sit nice and straight. I just bought a new single piece prop in the end that went in a treat! Sorry doesnt help you much tho.

sitting_budda Posted April 10, 2010 Author Report Posted April 10, 2010 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160421901201 This is where mine came from. If the prop is faulty... what should I be looking for??
Tom Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Clean the end of the prop inside and out and the tail shaft as you may be getting a hydraulic lock
sitting_budda Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 Managed to get the proP fitted with the help of a rubber mallet. It rotates but I can't select gears now I'm hoping that it will fix itself once I can get the engine to turn over and rotate the clutch
