iv started stripping the paint off my anglia, iv done the wing and the front panel so far im just gonna do any filling that needs doing then put some primer on her till shes ready to go be painted.

i was just wondereing what the best method was??

i was gonna use a etch, then red oxide and then put a few thick coats of white primer on to block down to get any small imperfections out.

is this the best way or not??

also what is the best etch and primers to use?

im sorta strugging coz i dont want to leave it in bare metal for too long (obviously) but i dont wanna go put aload if primer on and it be wrong and i have to ruin my filler trying to rub it off.

when i did my anglia i gave it all a coat of etch primer then i gave it all a coat with barcoat, then i used 2k hi build primer which i flatted down then sprayed again several times untill i got the desired flatness on the panels. then it got a full rub down with 1200 grit wet and dry, cleaned properly then painted. the only problem i had was there was too much dust in my garage and it settled on my paint ruining all my hard work, but all the prep was there

the barcoat i used was to prevent any of the previous paint still stuck in the crevices reacting with the new paint

thanks for replying.

what etch primer did you use?? and do you reckon a thin coat of red oxide would be a good idea or not?

i was gonna primer it then flat it off just before she goes to paint as i dont know when i can afford to get her painted yet.

im not sure what the etch was called but it was from my local paint supplier and was about 6 quid a tin and i used probably 4

as for the red oxide its probably a good idea because you may still get a little bit of surface rust coming through if its left for quite a while
