GJUK Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 How do I do this? I can't seem to remove the grease seal orinner roller bearing. the bar stewards appear to be stuck. Is there a method of removeing these or should I get a big hammer on 'em? Ta Jon
rallyesport04 Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 use a long screw driver put it throu the hub an hit the rear of the seal an to get the bearing out use a large hammer an punch hit either side equally till its out
GJUK Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 use a long screw driver put it throu the hub an hit the rear of the seal an to get the bearing out use a large hammer an punch hit either side equally till its out That sounds brutal. So me being miss daisy with a screw driver won't get it out then. I've got to man up and beat the crapola out of it?
rallyesport04 Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I've got to man up in the words of mr T "get some nuts" lol the seal should come out easy just keep tapping it in a circular or opposites with something blunt if you want to re use it the bearing race will need a good clout
GJUK Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 Roger that. Thanks, I'll find the hammer and bash it out. Thanks mate Jon
GJUK Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 Still stuck, this is where I'm at trying to remove the 'large' bearing... as far as I can see it's meant to come out towards me? I've cut out the rubber bearing but it still will not budge. Can anyone help please? Thanks Jon
flyingbanana Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 get a long round chisel that will sit on the inner ridge of the bearing and then tap evenly around the inner bearing cup to knock it out and then do the same for the other bearing......clean...grease up then you can use a socket to tap in the new bearings cups in.....just make sure you dont dent the new cups when installing

Which way are they meant to come out? Towards me in the photo? Or away from me in the photo? Honestly I can't see how it will come out unless I need to remove something further, the holes either side appear too small!!!
bortaf Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 once you have levered that round black rubber seal the bearing should fall out, the only thing that needs driftin out is the bearing seat (the round ring thats sort of coned) the new bearing is sitting in in the new packet
GJUK Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks both. But the bearing is too big to get through the hole. Look, here is the new one which is the same, sitting on the hole covering it by about 8mm in total.
Dave1800BDA Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 the new bearing is sitting on the seal that needs to be removed as described...hook/lever it out
tim Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 man up and get a big screw driver the black rubber sealer needs to come out, there should be a new one with the bearing
GJUK Posted July 11, 2010 Author Report Posted July 11, 2010 man up and get a big screw driver the black rubber sealer needs to come out, there should be a new one with the bearing Dude, it appears to be metal and the one I have to replace it is rubber. That is why I've not beat the crapola out of it yet. I will try brute force (which I'm quite good at) and see how it goes. Thanking you
rallyesport04 Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 the seal is a metal frame to keep it rigid with a rubber coating to stop the grease coming out give it a good tap an all will come clear if you havent a good workshop manual i would suggest getting one they are very handy to have to hand for various settings an info
Tom Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 If you're worried about damaging anything bud pop along to a friendly garage and they'll have it done in about 10 minutes for you. If not - hook out the grease seal and then the inner bearing will fall out. Remove the inner bearing race from the outside through the hole (and vice versa for the outer). There should be 2 cut outs opposite each other allowing you to get a good purchase on it with a suitable drift. It will need hitting firmly and evenly so once one side starts going move to the opposite side so it comes out straight. Flip it over and move on to the other one. Once they are out give it a good clean up and get ready to fit the new ones. You will need something suitable to push the new ones in with. I tend to use the old bearing race as a drift to put the new ones in. Again, go careful, get them straight and hammer them home. You'll know when they are fully seated as the noise it makes when you hit it changes to a thud. Properly grease the new bearings and fit them along with the rear seal - don't grease the seal. Fit them, adjust them, Job done
