Davewrc Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Are you gettting a spark? Test a plug by taking it out and resting on a head bolt whilst connected to its lead. Try to start the engine and see if the plug is sparking. (you will need a assistant to tell you)
SmokeEm Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Change/check the points & condenser 1st Gary. Coils do break down but rarely
garyv6100e Posted August 23, 2010 Author Report Posted August 23, 2010 Cheers guys , i have just pulled out one of the plugs and i am not getting a spark , so it must be points , condensor or coil , if the timing was a mile out i presume i would still get a spark but not at the right time for ignition
Davewrc Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Yes you would still get a spark no matter what the timing was set to. Try a new condenser as they are the cheapest
Savvi Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Take the coil "king" lead out from the centre of the dizzy cap and hold it near a earthing point (insulated pliers or similar) crank the engine and see if you have a spark. If you do then you have a problem with rotor arm or dizzy cap, if you don't the try points and condensor, also check you have voltage at coil
Toby Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Take the coil "king" lead out from the centre of the dizzy cap and hold it near a earthing point (insulated pliers or *similar) crank the engine and see if you have a spark. *(the wife)
baz105e Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 first thing i would check is your points gap as the follower is only plastic and do close up after a while
garyv6100e Posted August 23, 2010 Author Report Posted August 23, 2010 Cheers guys i shall try the points and coil lead tomorrow as i shall pick up a new set on my way home from work but i won't use the Wife Toby she would not take to kindly to getting a Jolt from the coil lead
Savvi Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Might save her some money on hairdresser appointment .................................. if she wanted a perm
Toby Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Well it's one way to know for SURE if it's working - and it's character building - and she will be pleased to be involved I'm quite sure! Although you may know her better than me having not met her....
garyv6100e Posted August 26, 2010 Author Report Posted August 26, 2010 Got my parts this morning Points condenser and a new coil fitted them all and the 100E is alive again i think it was just the points but as all the parts only came to £26 i thought i might as well get the lot i had visions of missing the Hastings run
