sparkycapri Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 I thought I had a good idea stick my 2000E gearbox on Egay and it would sell easy! . I've so far had about half a dozen questions most of which are from people convinced I am trying to sell a pup and don't believe it's a 2000E despite the fact that Removed it my self from a very original unmolested 2000E corsair . I spent 4 hours last night taking more pictures for comparison & moving stacks of gearboxes around. Totally fooked now! revised the listing and still no bids. Am I missing some thing here? have look to see if I'm being stupid only £99 starting bid got to be worth that http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :MESELX:IT
Chris! Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 The casing means nothing, count the ratios then you will know for sure what it is.
sparkycapri Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 The casing means nothing, count the ratios then you will know for sure what it is. YUP done that (See listing). and it is correct 3-1 1st, 2-1 2nd, 1.3-1 3rd. same as fitted to airflow lotus cortina & twink escort (pre air flow are different). But surely the give away is the remote gear stick on the tail housing 2000E is the only box that has this. am I right. GT cortina had extension housing off the magic wand position and all the later ones were threaded in sticks (the ones that tend to fall out at junctions or other awkward times)
Admin Vista Posted September 4, 2010 Admin Report Posted September 4, 2010 I'm going to show my ignorance here as I know nothing about these gearboxes but does the logic follow that because it came from a 2000E Corsair that it's a 2000E box? The 2000E in the car name surely only refers to the car model and has nothing to do with the box? 2000E 'Bullet' Gearbox A medium duty 4 speed box with three selector rails and all cast iron casing. Has been made with various gear selector positions; steering column change, two types of floor change and remote floor change. 7/8” x 20 spline input shaft. Often referred to as the ‘Bullet’ gearbox, although Bullet actually refers to only GT/RS spec three rail boxes that are fitted with close gear ratios as standard. Fitted in: Cortina Mk1 Lotus Cortina Mk1/2 -68 Escort RS1600/Mexico Escort Twin Cam

Reverse 3.342.

I have pretty much all of those other boxes you mentioned as you can see from pics so will be checking all my other ratios I guess. might have 20 2000E boxes now Thanks for the advise Chris & Vista Cheers It has been helpful to confirm what I already thought was correct. I was starting to doubt myself
Stiggy Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 If I remember correctly. The MK2 Cortina 1600 GT and E, MK3 Cortina and Capri used the single rail version of the 2000E not the 3 rail version only the 1500 GT had the 2000E. Also you can fit a 3 rail tail housing to a remote type casing, this is all IIRC as its been 20-25 years since I firked with Ford RWD boxes.
