xrt_si Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 No mate, Lukes is nice though! Another of my mates cars just recently made 441bhp @ 1.6 bar with very similar spec but on a set of uprated cams too. It made 415Ib/ft of torque too. Very good power! Is it a Silvertop or Blacktop? I was always led to believe standard cams couldn't see that kind of power! Really interested as mine should be going on the dyno soon, but I've got an ST170 head. Going into my Cortina soon!
ZetecTinaLee Posted September 15, 2010 Author Report Posted September 15, 2010 Well ian howell has said I wont see serious power gains with different cams but will move the power around.. ideally mine could do with more power up top so maybe cams are next?! silvertop Mk1 cortina?
ZetecTinaLee Posted September 15, 2010 Author Report Posted September 15, 2010 Whats yours silver or black top?
xrt_si Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Mine's a silvertop bottom end mated to an ST170 head. Forged pistons, steel rods, ARPs, Focus RS gasket, custom inlet and GT30.71 internally gated. Want to go external though. Hoping for 450ish. It's going into a Mk2 mate, just sorting out a T5 and diff! Won't be for a little while yet till I sort that.
turnover Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 thought these suffer from the heads lifting after 500hp
ZetecTinaLee Posted September 15, 2010 Author Report Posted September 15, 2010 There's a couple of chaps over 500 and one of them I believe is thinking about long studs but I don't actually think he has a reason too.. He hasn't had a reason too I mean!
me bitch Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 looks slow liam your going to need that neck brace soon
xrt_si Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 thought these suffer from the heads lifting after 500hp I've never heard of heads lifting. I've heard of cars with over 500bhp on totally standard headbolts. Most are on ARP stud and nut kit but only for ease when the head is taken off. Not needed though
turnover Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 it was harvey gibbs who mentioned it ,he knows a thing or two
xrt_si Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 it was harvey gibbs who mentioned it ,he knows a thing or two Interesting! As I say, never heard that before and I know of a Zetec Turbo Harvey built that made 570bhp on a ARP stud and nut kit.
cortina-mk1 Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 good effort so just recapping 287 kw @ the wheels on 1.7 bar (25 psi) ?
ZetecTinaLee Posted September 19, 2010 Author Report Posted September 19, 2010 385hp at the wheels, not sure what that relates to in KW... cheers
petrolhead Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 knock a quarter off 385bhp, so 287kw sounds bang on
xrt_si Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 I know this may sound a littke odd but how lively is it at the kind of power? After driving my Pinto powered Cortina last night I'm slightly reconsidering putting 450 bhp through it!
GT_lenny Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 I know this may sound a littke odd but how lively is it at the kind of power? After driving my Pinto powered Cortina last night I'm slightly reconsidering putting 450 bhp through it! i would imgine "Bloody Lively" would be the answer, my mk2 tina has 140bhp@wheels and i think that can be a bit hooligan at times
cortina-mk1 Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 id say it would just drive as normal of boost like a NA zetec but when you let the boost come on well 'up the road backwards'
ZetecTinaLee Posted September 20, 2010 Author Report Posted September 20, 2010 XRt-si, It handles the power surprisingly well, dont get me wrong though its not a car you can go screaming into a bend with and sticking your foot down... you will be in the hendge row!! Also the big 888's on the back help, the car is undrivable without them!! with the yoko's small tyres on the back same as on the front in 5th on the motorway it just about has grip!! Its a waist of time! The triple 8's also being 205/60's are a huge side wall and give good ratios which also helps out with traction! Mark shead who maps the car said how well the car takes the power, he was supprised it handled it so well! Everyone that goes in the car says how nice a ride it is and how well it sits, I think its due to it still being on leaf springs thats its not quite as harsh... Its not for the faint hearted.. if you think 140hp is hooligan, I wouldnt put 400hp+ through one When I know im going out in it for the day i do from time to time feel a bit nervous, but its that that makes sure I cant get bored with it If you chaps ever want a ride to see what its like il be happy to give you a taster at a meet or something..
GT_lenny Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 If you chaps ever want a ride to see what its like il be happy to give you a taster at a meet or something.. me me me me me
turnover Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 get yourself to the next osfdc round Liam
xrt_si Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Cheers for that Liam, I've had a 400bhp RWD Saff Cossie and a few other fast cars, just the 'Tina feels...different. Even at this power!
jamie Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 Me please Lee - would be well up for a passenger ride! 450bhp in Anglia? Winter project maybe!
ZetecTinaLee Posted September 22, 2010 Author Report Posted September 22, 2010 Turnover, I never know when these things are on! Maybe if the cars up to scratch in time for the next one il try my best!
turnover Posted September 22, 2010 Report Posted September 22, 2010 scroll down the site till you come to old skool ford drag championship then everything you need or want to know is there, and the next one is at shakeshere county raceway 2nd / 3rd october but you can turn up on the sunday if you want , I think there are about 18 allready for this event so a few more would be good as the last few events has had a poor attendance
oliwally Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Liam, its simply stunning but its the wrong mk1 makes me smile every now and then when I see you drive past the garage, makes the boring mots just fly by lol
