rudel Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Hi all just a quick one, i recently removed my clutch and found that the clutch had been hitting the flywheel bolts? the clutch "springs" are scored and the heads of the 6 bolts that hold the flywheel on are also scored where contact has been made any ideas? Cheers
Dalek Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 you have got the wrong clutch fitted. xflow by any chance ? i had this years ago. some dummy mechanic friend at the time sold and fitted a xflow out of a mk3 / mk4 cortina into my mk1 escort with the type 2 integral xflow bellhousing gearbox, after that it always had a weird clicking noise and if you jacked the rear of the car up in neutral with the engine running the rear wheels would turn ! Found the problem when i next changed the engine, were ten a penny then. Good job i did, flywheel bolt heads were about half as thick as they should have been !!!!!
rudel Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 Yes it is a x flow, a mexico mk1 and it has the 3 rail 2000e box on it, do you know what is the correct clutch/release bearing then mate? as i only have this "wrong" one to go by. cheers
escort21 Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 The clutch centre plate is the wrong way round
deltamal Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 The clutch centre plate is the wrong way round What he said...
ZetecTinaLee Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Maybe just the wrong clutch?? Only if the plate was the wrong way round normaly it wouldnt even fit? All the clutchs ive ever had if you try and turn the plate around it doesnt even fit inside the cover!
escort21 Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 No they fit the wrong way round fine....I know cause ive done it
rudel Posted September 30, 2010 Author Report Posted September 30, 2010 Clutch was the right way round, it sais gearbox side this way etc etc it is a strange one is'nt it. regards
