I'm thinking of getting a laptop for home (not work) and there are just sooooo many choices that I am confused.com!

So ... I am looking only to spend about £350-£400 and there does seem to be quite a range on offer in PC World (Acer is the name I recall particularly). It doesn't need to be all singing and dancing as I will not be playing games on it , just browsing the www and e-mailing etc.

Any recommendations peeps (even if it is which ones to avoid)?:thumbsup:

CheeRS in advance.

Tesco do a decent range Jo, I got a new sony one from them last week as my old one went t!ts up. 2 years manufacturers warranty aswell and was a better price than any of the other larger electrical shops

We bought a DELL desktop which we had for 5 years and then another DELL desk top with XP which we still use and then we bought a DELL laptop

1 1/2 years ago and bought another laptop a year ago for our daughter and we have had no problems with them whatsoever.

I use Dell , mine is kept in the van under car bonnets for diagnostics etc and all the ones i've had have been really good.

I buy 2nd ones from ebay at £100 a time it's the x300 lightweight but powerful.

The acer's suffer from charge lead sockets coming away from the main board, i had 2 of them previously and both did the same.

Amy has a little 9" Dell Netbook. It cost us £150 a year ago from PC World. All she uses it for is the internet and flash games and its ideal for that, and pretty quick too.

We did have a problem a couple of months ago where the keyboard wouldn't type certain letters. Dell sorted it straight out under warranty though.

Would definately buy another.

CheeRS for the info guys :thumbsup: And Tom, deffo worth a look - I had not considered that option

I really want one as all I use mine for is the same as you, surfing, email, pics

If they had been out when I bought my my mac I definitely would've bought one

Although, I'm off to NY next month and they are £100 cheaper over there....

Hmmm

I fished a Sony VAIO out of a skip last year and apart from a relatively short battery life and having to replace a screen control thingy (£15) it's been fine

But then I am a bargain loving, skip diving cheapskate

From experience I'd say go for the best warranty. Most laptops seem to do pretty much the same thing unless you go for something specialised, so the after-sales does seem to be important

yeah I'd wait for a little while though as there's relatively very few decent modles on the market so far!

i'd do yourself a favour and get an HP / Compaq or a Toshiba, seem to be the most reliable at the moment, in fact its all i'm stocking these days as the cheaper makes just seem to die and cause me more hassle than i can be bothered with!
