we were contacted yesterday by some one who said they were from microsoft, telling us our pc was infected.

they then wanted us to type in login123 to the address bar at the top.

this is a scam.

if you proceed with this they will show a page with loads of errors on it, this is normal for all pcs and not to worry about, just doing it to scare you.

the thing is microsoft will not ring you up,

this will give them access to your deatils, but ultimately they want your to hand over card details so you can purchace they software. NO THANKS

my advice is to either tell the to p1ss off of or dont actually type anything in and just keep telling them it will not dispaly page, and if in our case it was a lady ( or a chap depending on which way you swing) on the phone chat them up, I find the tell them you are touching yourself as your speaking normally works.

i've come accross these guys, they call themselves "windows support group" and claim to be a division of microsoft or something, then say theyll protect your PC for 10 years for only £99 dun dun dahhhh!!

 

anyway, best thing to do is download a program called "malware bytes" run that and itll find a few of the bogus files that are supposedly causing a million and one problems, also do a search on the PC for a folder / files with "lmi2" in the name, specifically "lmi2.tmp" as this seems to be the root cause.

 

had about 6 PC's that had been contacted by these people in the workshop last week, all of them had about 3 - 4 infected files on which allowed these people to obtain contact information and to make it appear that the computer is full of viruses and registry problems!
