It also depends on what spec you will run up the pod, i.e slicks or road tyres! the less grip you have the less likely you are to break a shaft etc!

rom there, you'll need fatter shafts. This means expense but must be considered when you spec your diff so you can upgrade. People break std shafts in LSD's all the time at pod - be warned! The quaife "up-graded" 22 spline (standard diameter) shafts don't have a great reputation.

Alrite Toby, hows things?? When I first started going pod with my pushrod engine I had the uprated standard spline quaife shafts without a problem!!! Thats not to say that after continuous use that i wouldnt have suffered any failures!!! And my car was fookin light lol

Hello mate, long time no see. Yeah some people do get away with various set ups including std shafts and boxs but in time if you push hard enough it is inevitable something will go ping! I take your point about slicks and it's a good point. The trouble is 048's and 888's are so good these days people are running 12's on road tyres and snapping shafts on these "road tyres"

Then you've got Mk1Gaz (Ex OSF) who is too worried about his shafts to burn out. You have to ask what's the point of going to Pod if you're not going all out! :ykt:

And true also, lighter cars do seem to have less trouble with drive train failures - I guess it's like comparing toe punting a football or a beachball without shoes on. One hurts!

Hopefully see you at Pod next year.
