polishing out scratches

The mrs this afternoon decided it would be a good idea to wash her fiesta... with a scouring pad

 

Can anyone recommend a polish or cutting compound that I can use to polish out the fine scratches that will a) do a reasonable job and not take up too much of the time I would otherwise have been spending on the mk2

Dunno if its the same sort of thing, but when your colour sanding, you use 2000 grit paper then go over with some G3 compound, buffs up the paint after you've used the 2000 grit

 

Although, think it depends how deep the scratches, and how much she's done

 

But give G3 a try, unless anybody else knows a more effective way

ive used g3 to bring up paint on 2nd hand plant equipment done a nice job took a bit of effort tho

Might be a good investment on an electric polishing mop if she' gunna make it a regular thing

 

Oh, don't forget, when polishing it back up with the G3, keep it well lubricated, water in a spray bottle is the most handy

I'll give that a try but was rather hoping not to have to invest in an electric mop.... I'll certainly be 'advising' next time the bucket and shampoo come out!

You can G3 it by hand, slower than a mop but will do the job.

 

If you do decide to get a polisher silverline do a 9" with variable speed control and soft start for about 40 quid, damp the pad, put a few spots of compound on and work a small area at a time keeping away from swage lines and edges, keep spraying a bit of water in to keep the paste moving, it avoids heat build up and or grabbing...

Came out really well, well chuffed. Apparently the scratches are deep but since its been done you wouldnt notice them, the bonnets like a mirror! so thanks to Sean!
