Daveyboy20 Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Does anyone know if its supposed to make an odd noise on full lock? Its my sisters Puma she complained of a brake noise and said they arent working properly, just took it out and i cant complain bout the brakes i didnt drive it before but they are definately better than my cortinas brakes! there is an odd knock coming from the front nearside wheel and on full lock the steering makes a kind of rubbing noise. When she told me the symptoms i assumed disks and pads and although the disks arent perfect theres loads of meat on the pads and they seem to work ok. Any wild guesses?
Cookie Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Yes mate, if its like a whirring sound loads of cars I'v had with pas have made it! worth checking the fluid level aswell though.
Burns Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 yeah, both my g/f's old car and current ones did it, sounds like it's trying to turn the wheels more than full lock (or something) hasn't caused any damage yet dude
Daveyboy20 Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 Oh right i was hoping it was that i dontlike the thought of her brakes being dodgy.. Levels ok so i guess the steering is fine. Dont know what is wrong with them might just have to bite the bullet and boiok it in to a garage. Had it on jack and axel stand and the wind nearly bloody blew oit off its feckin horrid out there!
Slik 50 Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 My power stearing makes a whinning noise when on full lockbut stops when you back it of a touch. Which I thought was natural. But if its a clunking noise I would look at a cv joint, ball joints or Track rod end
MK5 Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 power steering on my Corty makes no noise at all... however one of our neighbours has a new "Mini" and the whine is so loud we can hear it indoors!! I think its a modern car thing - my MK2 Granny's was silent too...
Daveyboy20 Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 The new mini has electric power steering i think, god knows how that works though!
Slik 50 Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 They are the same on new puntos and clios aswell they are just an electric pump instead of a mechanical one. We sell more electric pumps than we ever have mechanical ones

I know all about that, travelling down the A2 at warp speed (80mph ) and the f**king EPS light came on which meant no power steering. The car had only covered 280 odd miles as well Before you ask, NO.... I don't own one, it was my job for a while - collecting and delivering cars!!!
mk2_escort_chick Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 The new mini's *spits* make an awful noise. I dont like em
Mr Sam Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 why do manufacturers put power steering in stupidly small cars, is there any logic to it at all a transit van maybe.......

I'm impressed one got to 280 miles before it turned the light on! I PDI them for a living and a lot of them used to come from the factory with it on!
Wessie Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 power steering , got to love a bit of the quickrack action
groomers Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 noise you heard on full lock is normal its just the hydrolic fluid pumping at full pressure
