As Im new to this can anyone shed light on the engine ive been offered, its out of a sierra and is supposedly a 2.3 ford engine that looks similar to a pinto, I am told its from an american ford mercury and has about 140bhp, its a straight four ohc, I havent checked the engine numbers yet, I am hoping to squeeze it into a mk2 cortina, any info good or bad welcome, cheers polly-( not so pinto )

it is probably a 2.3 i4 16v twin cam

they also use the 2.0 i4 8v twin cam in the sierras

i have the 8v in my anglia and it is pretty strong. you will need to mate it up to the mt75 gear box which will not fit into the standard tunnel on a mk 2 tina. you will also need the ecu and wiring loom from the s i e r r a. its not the easiest way of fitting bigger power into a mk 2 tina. but dare to be diffrent

if its a US 2.3 single OHC it is totally different from the Euro spec 2.0 pinto, the other 2.3 fitted to the sie-ra was a V6.

The American 2.3, is better known as a LIMA as that was the plant it was made in. as far as I am aware, there are no interchangeable parts between the pinto and the lima, but the US spec 2.0, is a euro spec engine with a different sump as it was fitted to the Ford Pinto, hence the name Pinto

Beware...........there there's also a 2.0 OHC Lima version which is similar to the 2.3 Lima.

All US spec OHC "Pinto" engines are low compression like the Transit and P100 ones.

Its def out of a sierra and not a tranny etc, the only prob i can see is that its a rear sump (although very small) where as the tina is a front sump, any ideas welcome.

Choice of 3,

1, make the sump front bowl,

2, Find a Euro 2.0 ford Pinto sump that was fitted to a Ford Pinto!!!

3, convert the Cortina to rack and Pinion front end

may have todo the rack n pinion then i can choose pretty much any thing, especially as a friend has a 3.5 sd1 v8 with g-box, prop and a 3.0 capri axle which he doesnt want anything for, but im thinking this might be a bit large for a first project.

Not that hard to get a RV8 into a Mk2, but you will need to go for a rack conversion, and cut the bulkhead/tunnel area, just to fit the bellhousing, its HUGE, but I did not trim the bulkhesd back to fit the engine further back,
