ADY Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 Just bought a Mk1 Escort on ebay, and for what I thought was a good price, £1100 buy it now. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 768wt_1139 Arranged to pick it up on Tuesday with the guys mum because he was at work, then when he came home from work it turns out he had sold it to some one else. Gutted it looked a nice little fixer upper.
Nikki Nix Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 thats NOT good, shame to get your hopes up then someone just messes you around... hope you find another doer upper soon!
ADY Posted July 5, 2011 Author Report Posted July 5, 2011 I know, I got all excited for nothing lol. Never mind will be keeping my eye out for another.
SebringRS Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Had our eyes on that one, as the price tag was very cheap, gutted you missed out, as there wasent much rust considering the price
ADY Posted July 5, 2011 Author Report Posted July 5, 2011 I thought the price was really good, I sat and read through the rather basic description about 4 times before I hit buy it now because I thought I was missing something.
baz105e Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 it was one of my mates that bought that car, he payed £1000 for it and it aint that bad, only needs a few patches of welding and a couple of brake pipes. he's going to pinto it eventually thing is with things like this if you snooze you loose, and my mate went down the same day he contacted the guy with cash moneys took the car no questions
ADY Posted July 5, 2011 Author Report Posted July 5, 2011 lucky git I contacted them as soon as the I hit the buy it now, it was a good job I hadn't arranged to pick it up the same day because I would have been about an our into my journey before they phoned back to tell me they had sold it to someone else. I wouldn't have been to happy about that. They told me that he had sold it to a work mate.
Savvi Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 I'd say you had a good case for reporting him, he put buy now, you used that so you should get the car. I agree what Baz said and i've done the same myself when i've wanted it, but the guy should have done a classified or bids and stuck his number on if he was going to sell to the 1st phone call. He'd have been right fed up if you had hit the button and then not go to collect it !!!!!
clarkie1300ghia Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 hello i just joined this site browsing through and saw this about the mk1 escort that i just bought the advert didnt really describe the car too well to be honest he didnt mention that it had slid forwards on the trailer and hit the winch causing front panel damage he also didnt mention about the bubbling on various body panels such as the doors to be honest with u when i got there i was quite annoyed of how much he actually missed out about the car but i had travelled all that way and was not coming home with nothing i sat and thought about it before handing the cash over and thought to myself its still a cheap car if i have to spend abit on it it will still be worth it they had told me when i phoned them that they was ending the auction and then when i got there they had said somebody had clicked buy it now but the car was still mine as i had agreed a price with them that morning u will be seeing alot more of this as i crack on with the build as well as pics of the other 2 i have
Nuttynil Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 This sort ideal winds me people doing double adverts ,when you put an advert on eBay you got to honour it and don't mess people .neil
Stiggy Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 We are all aware, I am sure, that Ebay is full of messers, people getting rid of the crap they could not possibly get away with selling else were for the sum they want. People selling sh1te that is worthless, shill bidding were you get your mates to bump the price up, (Don't sit there and say you all have not done it) private auctions ??? ebay's answer to how to bump up there income but letting all your mates bid and no one is the wiser thus increasing the final sum and their charges. And the "I have advertised it else were so I reserve the right to do whatever the feck I like" old chestnut. In otherwords I will ask £500 more for it just to take the firkin biscuit. You should expect nothing less than total messers with Ebay, that way you won't be disappointed.

ADY Posted July 6, 2011 Author Report Posted July 6, 2011 I know you get a lot of messers on ebay but up until recently I have had no problems, perhaps I've been lucky. This is the third car in about 2 months that this has happened to me with. Never mind, shit happens.
Daft Lad Picko Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 I must say Ady, you are remarkably calm about all this. That's the best way though cos as Stiggy says, there are a lot of tyre kickers and time wasters out there in it for themselves. I try to stay away from Ebay if possible, but sometimes it's a necessary evil. Good luck with the search for something else mate.
mk2 mike Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Bang out of order as far as i'm concerned. Its people like that who have made a joke of the site and turned it in to what it is now. I know moaning aint going to get you the car now, but notifying ebay might make other buyers aware of the t osser they might be dealing with. Well done for shrugging it off
Paul F Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 I guess the best thing you can do is leave negative feedback, so any future bidders are aware it could happen to them.
JAY PS Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Dont think he was out of order really ,ive lost count of the times an ebayer hasnt turned up or asked for discount ,or tried to knock me ,i ran a business thru there and still do ,first one with the cash always gets it ,its the law of the jungle ,everyone of you would do the same . Sadly when advertising any car or projects you get timewasters and of you loose £100 on the deal ,you can easily loose that just adveristing stuff on ebay. It no different to the auto trader ,how many times have you phoned a seller and said please let me have first refusal as im on my way ,and then see the cars new owner drive past you 2mins from the sellers home. Just look on it as not meant to be
Savvi Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 I agree if it was on bids or a classified ad, but the guy had it on a buy now which was used, he also arranged with the seller before doing that ? I dont blame the guy who drove down with the cash but the seller is in the wrong in this case, no point advertising a buy now then not selling to the person who used it. I'm sure you dont advertise with buy now, then sell to someone else when the buy now has been used ? As i've said before it's a straight £13 / £14 for a classified ad which runs for a month with no final sellers fees, so if he knew what he would take for it and wanted someone with cash why not do that sort of ad ? Just winds me up seeing this cos ebay was so good when it 1st come out, now it's everyone for themselves and all the trust has been lost.
Stiggy Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 It was on buy it now but still did the dirty. In my book pay him/her/it a visit and kick him/her/it square in the crotch. More of that went on then some may think twice. Wait till you travel 250 miles and some plick says "Oh sorry sold it"
