mk2 mike Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 With my car. Is there anybody in the Essex/London/surrounding areas that is willing to look at it? It has problems starting (the starter motor turns slowly, and when hot barely turns at all) I tried jumping it from another car and it turned over a bit quicker but still not as fast as I would expect. I can't tell if the battery is knackered or the starter is, or both? Also it won't idle, it pops and spits, is constantly popping on over run and has no power. I need someone with knowledge and the tools to determine if it's the carb that needs adjusting/replacing or if the timing is out or ignition bits need replacing. I don't know where to start, I have no mechanical knowledge or tools and can't afford to replace everything willy-nilly so I need a diagnosis from someone who knows what they're doing. Anyone willing to help? beer tokens waiting!
FBF Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 i got a mate of mine who is a great mechanic that you can trust. if you cant find a better offer bring it my way and we can spend an evening over there with him.he will work for beer tokens. i prefer a nosh....
mk2 mike Posted August 30, 2011 Author Report Posted August 30, 2011 Thanks dan, I might take you up on that offer if I can't get anyone closer. EDIT: thats the offer of your mech mate, not the nosh.
retrorigg Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 have u got a good body to engine earth , usually a thickish wire going from the body to the engine somewhere, if this isnt on or good connection it will turn slow , possible solution

I can do looking! Next time I'm at the car I'll check that out, cheers mate!
James HPE Motorsport Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 You could even use a jump lead to make a new earth from somewhere on the body onto the engine (make sure you have a good connection to bare metal) that way you can tell straight away without even looking!
