Del Boy Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Hello all, I bought a scrap mk3 m-o-n-d-e-o (dont know why it wont let me post the word m-o-n-d-e-o)to strip and sell the parts and the wheels are 16 inch 5 spokes original ford wheels but better than the 13 inch specials on my Capri so I put the back wheel on which was fine but the front wheel hits the strut well the tyre does so I'm a bit annoyed at the mo! My question is can I do anything about it so it will fit? the tyre width is the same as the special wheels 205's I'm sure I have seen 17" rims on 2.8 Capri???
Admin Vista Posted September 7, 2011 Admin Report Posted September 7, 2011 The wheels will be the wrong offset for your capri, hence why they foul the strut. You can fit spacers to push them out but will probably also need longer wheel studs to make this solution work............push them out too far to solve one problem however and you'll have problems with the tyre fouling the arch. P.S. Congrats on finding one of the swear filter words, how many more can you find?

Del Boy Posted September 7, 2011 Author Report Posted September 7, 2011 Seen 2 spacers and studs on ebay for about £25 will do it - depending on the space I need!?
Admin Vista Posted September 7, 2011 Admin Report Posted September 7, 2011 how much do you need to go out by to clear the strut? If it;s just a few mm then you can get 3mm spacers and may not need to change your studs to accommodate this change

SmokeEm Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Turbo-Mike fitted 17" Monde.o alloys to his Capri once & I believe he had to use proper spacers and extra long studs. He said it drove like a pig after though.

Admin Vista Posted September 7, 2011 Admin Report Posted September 7, 2011 20mm spacers? I know it's possible and people do use them that large but personally I wouldn't bother and would look instead for a wheel with the right offset. If you must use spacers that large then use hub centric ones. Note that there are two types These ones bolt to your existing studs and give new ones to bolt your wheels to. Thus maintaining the wheel properly central. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITREON-SAXO- ... 1319wt_905 Whereas these slip over the existing studs (longer ones are provided) and are held in place by the wheel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Hubcentr ... _618wt_905 Whichever type you buy, you need to get the right centre bore for your wheels.
