jimbo Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 Hi folks. Hope you're all keeping well? I've just bought some new plugs for my Capri (1984 2.0 OHC engine). They are Bosch Super R6. The plug gap is factory set to 0.8mm In the Haynes it talks about Champion plugs (can't remember model number off the top of my head), but the gap is set to 0.63mm. Question is, which setting should I go for? Other factors to bear in mind: Car is running std evertything, apart from Bosch dizzy fitted with Accuspark electonic ignition http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Capri-el ... 35ad3782cd I fill it with standard U/L with Lead replacment additive. Thanks in advance for any help. Jim
Davewrc Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 NGK say 0.6 aswell so I'd go with that
jimbo Posted September 27, 2011 Author Report Posted September 27, 2011 Cheers Dave. I've seen a couple of threads on other forums talking about a gap of 0.8 for 'leccy ignition. Does anyone have any thoughts about whether that might be right given that I've changed over from points?
BIG G Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 with a decent coil id run 0.9mm but should handle 1mm
2litreScapri Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 Is there any benefits to running bigger spark plug gaps if you hav a decent coil?
jimbo Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 Bigger gaps = more spark area = fuel ignites more rapidly = more oomph!
2litreScapri Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 Cheers, I knew I was always missing some engine tuning knowledge. You never stop learning!
