Wessie Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 i've just buggered up my other computer my case was broken so i got a new case and tryed to swap everything over, now its just a mess of wires and doesnt work so if anybody would be able to help me out ASAP as i use it for OSF and college work (all my college work is still on it) it would be greatly appreciated and payed well in beer and love
orionmojo Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 does it power up at all? i.e. fans spin etc? i reckon the most common thing to miss is a 4 pin power extension depending on the age of it. its 2 yellow and 2 black wires.

spooner Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 make sure u got the ribbon cables the right way round,ie one edge of the cable has line on it,thats no1.look at the drives+m/b will be marked where no1 is,match em up. look 4 a thin wire marked sw(switch wire)is in the right place
orionmojo Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 ok, at the bottom of the case are there about 10 very tiny wires that plug onto the motherboard. these are usually speaker, power button, reset button,power LED, hard disk LED. are these all plugged in the right place? if your not sure, take them all off, and run a small electrical screwdriver along them, touching all the points (CAREFULLY!) this should 'bump' start it. icant really get pics cos i'm not at work, ad i'm not takig mine apart, cant be arsed
Wessie Posted January 23, 2007 Author Report Posted January 23, 2007 orionmojo, it has a 4 pin plug but before i took it apart i noted all the plugs that were not attached to anything - that was one of them i tryed running a screwdriver along the pins but to no avail. there just seems to be a lack of power to the motherboard ATM

I'm in nottingham, but would be more than happy to help

Wessie Posted January 23, 2007 Author Report Posted January 23, 2007 grey leads removed but still no luck , i plug the power in no lights/fans etc come on, its like theres no power to the whole system i've swapped the power leads and its not a problem with them, could a fuse be gone in the power suplly area?
GJUK Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 It could be the PSU (power supply) thought not likley. Have you tried a different PSU lead? - kettle lead EDIT - sorry you say you have done the above! Its really hard to make head or tail of it without being there sorry

Also It could be the mother board is touching the new case and shorting out - small but possible chance. right heading to bed will try again in the morning Thanks J

orionmojo Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 if the ans are spinning its not the PSU. take the graphics card out, and the tv card. then reseat the graphics card leaving the tv card out. i can see from the picture that they dont meet the care properly at the top. if te motherboard screwed in? it could be shorting out if its ot, and you'll probably have knackered it. did you earth yourself before you took it out? and did you hold it by the processors heatsink? this is the best way to prevent killing them 'in transit' cos they're well sensative to static.
