Hi

After your help

I have just shipped my mark 1 escort 4 door, white, 1100 (with 1300 engine)to the uk from Cyprus and trying to register it in UK as a heritage car.

According to the Log Book it was Built 01/01/1973 and registered in Cyprus 22/10/1973.

The DVLA won't allow me to regiser it as a Road Tax free car as thier policy says it has to be built BEFORE 01/01/1973 (missed out by hours)

If i can find out were and exactly when it was built i can appeal to DVLA to change my listing to heritage vehicle which i believe it is.

Can any one tell were i can get that information.

My VIN is BAFNB84308, and believe it was built in halewood and then shipped to Cyprus.

Thanks for any advice or help you have

BAFNB84308

B = ENGLAND

A = ESCORT

F = 4 DOOR SALOON

NB = built may 1973 :sad::sad:

84308 = unique number to the car. its weird how your log book says jan 73

so maybe its worth fighting the dvla over it.

BELOW IS VISTA'S POST FROM THE HOW TO DO IT ROOM......

Mk1 Escort only, sorry guys

On the pic below, the bottom left chassis plate is for mk1 Escorts from Aug 1970 on, and the bottom right is upto Aug 1970

On the early type, the last two letters of the vehicle number in the centre determine the build date from the table above. This car was KL equating to Jan 1970

On the late type, the last two letters in the vehicle number (top row third box from left) determine the build date. This car was PJ though which should be May 74 but there's a misprint in the table showing May 74 as PI

To be honest Neil that looks like there's some digits missing from the VIN number, UK mk1 Escort Vins are normally 6 letters then five digits, here we have only 5 letters

I reckon there should be another B at the beginning of the VIn no

B - Ford of Great Britain

B - Halewood Assembly

AF - 4 Door Saloon

NB - May 73

84308 - Vehicle specific serial number

Sorry, not the news you were hoping for.
