Watched it on the news last night ...:sad:

27 vehicles in one of the worst road accidents ever recorded, there had been torrential rain and it was foggy.

There are also suggestions that taunton rugby club are partly responsible for having their fireworks display and bonfire almost adjacent to the motorway. On a BMW forum I use one of the members father was involved (uninjured fortunately) and reported that it was like driving into a wall of white with visibility dropping to a few metres almost instantaneously.

Watched footage on the news of people trying to get into crashed cars involved in the fire with people trapped within them

Pour souls and very brave people trying there best

very upsetting footage to watch that ! those poor people i really hope they went before the fire got them. this was similar to the one a few years back on the m40 or m42 that was fog + speeders.

i was coming back from london down the m40 that day, and the rain was really coming down, i still had people flying past me at 80 90mph.

then if there is fog or smoke on the m5 then people will have no chance of stopping in time.

last time i was on the m5 in heavy rain a couple of years ago,

it was the middle of the night but i remember hitting large areas of standing water in all 3 lanes. maybe something the highways need to look into. 7 lives lost and countless others ruined.

Living in Plymouth I use the M5 a lot during the year, when the speed warning signs are flashing they are mostly ignored even in fog and heavy rain :? don't think there is an easy answer to slowing traffic down in bad conditions.......
