.... those of you of a certain age will remember Tarzan and Cheetah

 

Well I just noticed that the original Cheetah died last week in an animal sanctuary aged 80

 

I never realised that ape's could live that long

 

Cheetah the chimpanzee, who starred in the Tarzan movies, has died aged 80.

 

The animal sanctuary in Florida where Cheetah lived said he died from kidney failure on Christmas Eve.

 

In a statement the sanctuary said:

 

"It is with great sadness that the community has lost a dear friend and family member on December 24, 2011. Cheetah, star of the Tarzan films, passed away after kidney failure during the week of December 19, 2011."

 

Cheetah starred alongside American Olympic gold medal swimmer Johnny Weissmuller in the 1930s films.

 

 

Debbie Cobb, the outreach director at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Palm Harbour paid tribute, saying the primate seemed to be tuned in to human feelings and loved to see people laugh.

 

Cheetah was described as outgoing and enjoyed finger painting however one volunteer at the sanctuary said the chimp would throw faeces if he did not like what was going on.

 

Before moving to the sanctuary, the chimpanzee lived with his co-star on Weissmuller's estate.

I dunno, I've met a few chimps in my time that I've no doubt will out last that, most of them liked to sling a bit of sh*t around now and again too.
