Skoty Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 iv got a mk2 escort in my garage that i was gonna sell as iv sold my mk2 escort that i used as a daily as iv lost interest in post 60s cars, but now my mates bought a BMW 325 and welded the diff its alot of fun and its all cost him about £500. i want a cheap drift car to have a muck about in, i used to drift my old 1600 mk2 abit but just didnt really have enough go. anyways im thinking of slapping a 2l pinto in the mk2 and welding the diff up just want some advise on what i need to do the conversion really as iv always been a Kent engine man so the pinto's abit alien to me haha, also what sorta front brakes are the cheapest/easiest to fit? will sierra hubs or struts fit straight on? i may have sourced a 2.0 and box. cheers in advance
GJUK Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Probably cheaper, easier and quicker to buy a 525. After you've got an engine, all the rs bits to make it fit, you'll be at about 250, then you've got to fit it. Depends how much you value time/money. J
Skoty Posted January 28, 2012 Author Report Posted January 28, 2012 well i bought the escort for £50 and its pretty much mint and its just been sitting in my garage for ages, i was hoping to do the conversion for under £600 do you reckon that would be possible? also will a 2.0 pinto have enough power to lose traction? i was gonna just have it standard on some 40s/45s? i did think about just buying a BMW or a s13 but i dont think i could stick driving one about haha, sounds weird but i despise anything modern! modern cars really offend me, hence why my daily is a mk2 zephyr haha i cant stand 'gadgets' to me a gadget is a starter motor.
Nick Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Sell it to me and buy yourself an E30 or something very tail happy and easy to drift
5tox Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 a cheap drifter could be something like a 200sx which are very tail happy and can be picked up REALLY cheap (the old one with the pop up headlights) i was tempted to get one just to mess about and get a feel for it so i dont stack the escort when its done had a cossie before but was too scared to give it any sideways action incase i fooked it up I guess really N/A is better than turbo for that kind of thing
Skoty Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 yeah i did look at s13's but i really cant stand technology i even looked at a few AE86's as i love these cars but there fully loaded too! power everything, so jap cars are out the window (i owned a EG5 for a while and hated every minute of it even though it went like stink!) thats the main reason i love old fords simple and full of character. im not too worried about hitting the escort as im a panel beater and i dont wanna do it professionally haha just a few DWYB days a year.
