Cinema and films ...

I took my folks to see War Horse a couple of weeks ago (they are both 71 but not doddery old farts ) and it was like taking two "special" people out for the day ... lol how funny to watch their faces at the vastness of the modern day cinema and the surround sound Last time I remember my dad ever going to the cinema was in 1977 for Close Encounters of the Third Kind !!!! (it was always my mum that took us to the cinema).

 

Anyway, we all thought the film was really good (excellent cinematography) Praise to Spielberg

 

So ... what was the first film you can remember seeing at the cinema and what was the most recent film you have been to the cinema to see? Or maybe you have a funny story from back in the day when you could smoke at the cinema, the kia-ora advert was always played and the lady came round with the ice creams during the "interval" ( how old am I )

1st film I saw was Star wars & the last was Avatar in 3d which I thought was awesome

I'm sure I'd been taken to the cinema before this but I don't remember it. And as we lived overseas (no cinemas, no TV, hell we only had electricity for 5 hours a day) between 77 and 82, the first film I remember seeing at the cinema was when back in the UK on vacation in 1981. It was For Your Eyes Only and it had my eyes on stalks (as an 11 year old mind) at all the suggestive sex scenes. I wanted a Lotus Esprit for years after that!

The first films I can remember seeing are twister and Junior

they definately weren't the first, probably not by a long shot, but are the earliest I can remember. Funny that I turned out to be a massive Schwarzenegger fan! ha ha

 

The last film I saw was "The Grey" which I saw this time last week, and thoroughly enjoyed watching people getting mauled by wolves!

I grew up in Camberwell but can't remember a cinema. Was it on the corner of Coldharbour lane?

 

I can remember my mum taking me to see boys in blue (cannon and ball film ) and octopussy. The first film I went to see on my own was Return of the Jedi at the Elephant and castle in south London, which would have been 1983 making me 9. I can remember buying myself one of those little square plastic cartons of orange (kia-ora?) and feeling all grown up!

 

I haven't been to the cinema in ages, not been any films I wanted to see
