Russ mc Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 I'm seriously considering changing my original 4 speed box to the type 9 , she pulls like a train through the gears but revs high when cruising and want a bit of middle ground really , are my quick shift and clutch compatible as both done less than 1k , if anyone has a good type 9 please let me know
mk1mexico Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Your quickshift wont fit directly but an adaptor is available, clutch is the same
aden Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 You will also have to move the gearbox mtg back in the tunnel as its further back on a 5speed
Russ mc Posted February 26, 2012 Author Report Posted February 26, 2012 Cheers for the replys , is it a matter of preference or are most cars running the 5 speed versions
aden Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Think it's a matter of preference, my rs2000 I had I couldn't bear to put a 5speed in it because the Rs box has such a nice change, and I knew it would never be the same with an old sierra box lol

The first four gear ratios are identical.
rallyesport04 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 with a rose jointed quickshift i thought they felt about the same bit noisey an syncros wont last but it wasnt a everyday ride could have been slamming it in 2nd round roundabouts that done it

Russ mc Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 Cheers lads , well it's def a 5 speeder , i know what you mean ref the RS box mine is such a nice crisp change prob the best of any ford I have owned
rusty82 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 with my tin corner i needed a type 9 cause i use it everyday and just that extra gear makes a hell of a difference in saving fuel after ive done my b road blasting the first type 9 i had was out of a capri even though it was trashed (didnt know untill after fitting ) the speedo was correct..... the next box was out of a old saff and was five mph out so ive got to change the speedo drive gear, the box has been fitted for four years and still havent got round to it. but hey my car is 5mph faster now
