fezza Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 I sold an Omex rev limiter with launch control on ebay last week, the guy that bought it sent me an email the other day claiming its not working and now he wants to return it i know the unit was working,i only took it off my car to replace it with the same make limiter but with a shift light. Problem is i dont know what to do,he says its been fitted correctly and he's had it doubled checked,i dont know if he's had a change of mind, fitted incorrectly and maybe damaged it himself? or he's not operating it correctly Bottom line is it was working when i sent it and now (according to him) its not,i feel like telling him to do one but i dont want bad feedback or worse still if he claims his payment back from paypal,i'll end up with no rev limiter and no payment, could this happen if i refuse to accept the return and he opens a case against me Its driving me crazy,i dont know if he's being dishonest but i would never sell a faulty item,i even had it advertised on here Any advise?
banarama Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 may be its got damaged, by the courier, and hes recieved it like that these courier firms, do tend to throw things about a bit.id get him to return it,cheque it out when you get it back yourself.if it dont work,id give him his money back.then its obviously been damaged in transit.and not his fault.
glenbo Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 contact ebay and ask for their advise, they can be helpful at times

I posted it royal mail recorded signed for,it was extreemly well packed in a cardboard box 10 times the size of the limiter, wrapped bubble wrap and the box packed out,the unit itself is very light,i always over do it,they would have had to drive over it contact ebay and ask for their advise, they can be helpful at times This was the first thing i did,not much help at all unfortunatly
Admin Vista Posted March 10, 2012 Admin Report Posted March 10, 2012 If you don't want the issue of negative feedback then I would accept the return of it. But when it does came back to you, did it have an distinguishing marks that might enable you to establish that it is actually the one you sent him?
SteveL Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 If the guy does a claimback ebay will make him return the item signed for before he gets any refund .I bet hes not had it fitted correctly hope it works out for you .He can still leave negative after you refund sadly
Mrs O/H/C Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 I would say that its best to accept the return as if you had purchased an item and it did not work once you received it that is what you would expect. I think sometimes it is a huge gamble when sending items through the postal system and maybe its faulty through incorrect fitting but the buyer could start a case on Ebay and the the amount would more than likely be taken from your Paypal account and you would receive negative f/b. Some you win..some you lose unfortunately
mk1estate Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Sorry to say you will just have to bite the bullet and give him a refund before paypal just takes it, ive had this a few times so all i can say is ask him to return it and you will refund his money BEFORE paypal does it for you then you will lose the goods and your money because there is no way the buyer will post it back to when he has got his money back, at least you only have to refund the price of the goods and not the postage. I sold 2 items to america, i didnt realise it was the same buyer as the item finished on seperate days so i had wrapped them seperate and posted them on seperate days, the buyer claims he didnt get them. when i contacted ebay they were on the buyer side and asked why i didnt send them recorded so i replied that the buyer didnt want that option as they didnt want to pay for the cost but they still sided with them and refunded all the money, so the buyer had 2 items of me for free and i lost both items. I also asked why does paypal have access to MY account and can just withdraw money without my permition
fezza Posted March 10, 2012 Author Report Posted March 10, 2012 Vista: The limiter did have a couple of marks on it so i hope that it will be obvious is hes trying to pull a fast one and return a different one to the one i sold SteveL: This is what i was thinking, incorrect installation or operation seems likely mrs lead foot: I hear what your saying about what to expect if i was to buy a faulty item but its hard to accept when i know it was working when i sold it and im having trouble accepting return of a faulty item when i sold it in perfect working order? that would feel like a right kick in the testies, its hard enough to get a retailer to accept returns, what does he think i am...Argos mk1estate: Yea ive been stung a few years ago with that charge back buisness despite obvious fraud from the other party involved, was not impressed Trouble is to be eligable for seller protection you have to have the items signed for, tracking number and proof of postage,if you dont provide this info you will always lose in a claim senario, thats why i avoid international selling.
fezza Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 **UPDATE** I was in the middle of writing an email telling him to post I back to me and decided to delete it and ask him what car he had fitted it to, he replied and said it was a saxo vts which after a bit of research turns out they require the twin coil version, mine was clearly described as a single coil model, basically he's bought the wrong one ,id like to think im a reasonable chap but thats his mistake not mine,I emailed him explaining this and suggested he sells it on and buys the correct version for his car,I'm waiting for his reply so we'll see if he accepts responsibility and draws a line under it,I will update when I hear back
marky4 Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 thats a result he doesn't have a leg to stand on he brought the wrong one
mk1estate Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 thasts fine as long as ebay/paypal see it that way. best bet is to get the buyer to contact ebay to admit is was their error then your covered, keep all emails and be warned there is a time limit before they made a decision, been there and thought we had it all sorted just to find paypal has awarded the buyer his money back
fieldy1972 Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 good news mate being that he drives a Saxo, maybe he should have done a bit of homework before buying it. what a plum!!!
