sgallywag Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 right im now at the stage were i need to tax and test my mk2 escort that has been sat for 21 years. how do i go about this or can i just go and mot at my mates garage. is there a quick and easy way or is it an investigated turnout because i need it for boxhill this weekend...cheers
Col-ashtonmobile Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 As long as its booked in at the mot station and is logged in their diary as coming in on that specific day , you are allowed to drive to and from the mot station , if the police were to stop you and you say your going for mot they will contact the mot station and get this confirmed , so make sure you have the mot station details with you , i.e , name , address , phone number , time of appointment , and make sure the mot station can confirm this to the police if contacted .

Pay for insurance and get your car MOT'd so you're not a risk to other sensible users on the road.
Skimmer Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 I was going to mention insurance as either the importance in the liability side youll need insurance to tax it , Whenever i have a car that ive heavily modded or been sat for a while i always like the MOT tester to be slightly over the top especially on checking everything , as i then know it IS safe .....good luck in sorting it in 2 days especially as tomorrow is a bank holiday Don't be a scallywag. Col-ashtonmobile Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 i did presume he had some insurance
sgallywag Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 thanks for the replys lads but i no about being legal on the way to and from the mot station and that i need to book an appointment first as i have moted many a motor pmsl oh dear wrong end of the stick what i wanted to no was whether i could mot it or whether it needeed inspection first as its been sitting for 21 years lol cheers anyway lads
macrs2k Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 Have a good squint over it yourself first and make sure everything is tight and no major leaks (us mot testers hate getting covered in stale fuel or brake fluid) ...Then you could either get a pre mot done if your local garage still does them or go straight for a full test....No need for an official inspection mate Good luck...
