A mate of mine has started a harrier register to log down details of as many genuine cars as possible. The site seems to be down at the moment though. His user name is harriertony and he really knows these cars even down to how the vin plate numbers should run. Its worth seeking him out i dont know if hes on here but he is on http://bbs.rallyesportescorts.co.uk/index.php

The cars were based on the 1600 sport but came with recaros and a boot spoiler from the RS and yes a bracket in the boot for the spare wheel strap. So they are quite easy to fake and your wise to do your homework before you buy.

they were really a parts bin car, sports shell, RS interior, the spare wheel strap (this was mig welded on like it was an afterthought due to the alloys so dont get caught out). i think they were all V reg but dont quote me on that. also they were mostly down as a 1600 sport on the log book but some did have Harrier.

well done for doing your homework first, i got very annoyed when i was selling mine as people messed me about as they didnt have the right info.

hope it helps

There are a number of pointers to look for, it all depends on how original the car still is etc. My harrier site is down at the moment possibly server maintenance, but it will be back online soon as this has happened a few times before.

As already mentioned, the spare wheel bracket position, but anyone can fit one of those. It should have Triplex Bronze glass all round, and depending on how close to original spec it still is :-the brake check warning system, sports clocks, remote drivers mirror, carello headlamps, ford spotlamps, Altissimo rear light units and foglamp. front and rear overriders, front quarter bumpers, 3 spoke steering wheel, sports gearknob, etc. The chassis number should always start BBAT on a harrier and is usually followed by WP or AB or AA, there are a few later ones registered as W, but almost all were V reg, hope this helps.
