gibbo25 Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 Hello again people, you may have read my last message, so i'm buying a mk1 mexico through ebay. The seller isn't about for me to view the car, he works abroad, and the car is over 400 miles from me, but the seller tells me i can purchase the vehicle through ebay, ebay hold my money, the car is delivered to me, which will cost me £220, i then have 3 days to check the car out, if the car is as described (of which the seller garentees me it is!) ebay release the money to him and job done, if not as described then i refuse the sale, the car is returned to seller at his cost and ebay give me my money back. I don't use ebay all that often but has anybody else heard of, or used this servce? Thanks for your replys stewart
livewire7116 Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 no doubt its a few quid you have to part with, surely its worth the cost of a plane flight or even a road trip and collect it.could be genuine but big risk. By the time the car is due to be delivered he will have withdrawn the funds and car may not turn up if it even exists
over_head_cam Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 Sounds a little odd to me. Have you got a link to the item?
emu Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 Sending someone you've never met a tenner for a DVD or a book you've never seen is one thing. Are you seriously telling us your contemplating doing it with a considerably larger sum of money???? Its quite obviously a scam. If you were selling a car, but were working abroad, then wouldnt you arrange for a friend or relative to be available for viewing????
Savvi Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 It's one of the most common ebay scam. Leave it alone mate cos if not you'll be losing your money. They take the money then disappear car will never turn up. Always best to view car 1st leave a deposit, pay cash and take it away there & then or if ebay go back home and bid if your happy with it, you read these scams everyday and i still cant believe people fall for it, report it to ebay and you'll soon know as they will remove it if not happy.
Stiggy Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 It's a scam, but ask for fresh pictures with the days newspaper in them, just as a start. Give a link to the ebay ad. Would you hand your bank details to this man ??? I have looked and can't find any that far away, I am in SE London, the furthest is 185 miles
Admin Mk2Jo Posted May 2, 2012 Admin Report Posted May 2, 2012 Deffo sounds like a SCAM to me ... no way on this earth I would do that
Jiffer Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 I had similar with a digger, location was only a few miles away so contacted the seller to ask for a veiwing, he came back with not posible but if I was not happy I would get all my money back, at this point I knew it was a scam, so reported it, the next day the same digger was advitised 200 miles away , I myself like to veiw and pay with good hard cash
SebringRS Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 My dad usually finds most of his cars on ebay, he tends to go and veiw it before the auction ends, asks the guy what he'd take for it there and then, most of the time they say they want to let the auction run, but sometimes you can get lucky and get it a bit cheaper, plus always helps to go and veiw, even if it is miles away, as then you know the exact state of it, a small cost for a plane trip could cost you alot more in the long run if you bought the car My dad bought a camaro from the states just through photos, and obviously being over here, is a bit much to just go and veiw it, he bought it, turned out to be alot worse in the photos Ever since that, he now pays an american company a small fee, who then go out and inspect the car, taking photos of bad bits etc. Costs about $200, but thats $200, whereas if you buy it, it could end up costing you alot more to repair it, and even worse with a Mex, could be a replica, and from photos its hard to tell even if the usual signs are visible Might be worth seeing if there is a inspection company over here, if you dont want to pay the flight cost for you, and get them to inspect the car
mk2 mike Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 Leave it well alone mate. There's no way you'll see your money again.
Stiggy Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 Just a heads up on this, went through problems on ebay before, buyer protection ??? my a$$. Paypal were unable to refund my money as the sellers account was empty, then again Egay and Paypoop never expected Credit Card company to take the money back
gibbo25 Posted May 2, 2012 Author Report Posted May 2, 2012 Hello again everybody and thank you for you replys and advice, I also thought things didn't sound right and now it has been proven, I've been sent 2 emails from eBay saying I've won the car and and get a free £20000 insurance policy from them, so if the sale goes wrong I'm covered, these messages don't appear on my eBay account just in my email account. Asking me for the money to be paid into an holding account in edgware! So as I suspected and you all rightly pointed out it's a scam, thought it was to good to be true, because it was. So I've still got 4k burning a hole in my pocket looking for a classic ford (escort) something slightly special!?????
Stiggy Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 £20K insurance my ass. Check where those mails came from I bet it's not Egay. Please post up the ad for everyones pleasure.
Mk1-Paul Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 More proof of it being a scam is youve just said you were buying a mk1 mexico and youve now got 4k so if you can find a decent legit mk1 mex for 4k send me the link
