dohnut91 Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 Hi all, Managed to snap both drive shafts yesterday morning at SCR, and was just wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get them from. they were stronger uprated ones with an lsd but they both snapped like twigs. and also if anyone has any top tips of getting the remaining shafts out they would be greatly appreciated. thanks
banarama Posted June 10, 2012 Report Posted June 10, 2012 YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO UNDO THE BOLDS ROUND THE DIFF ITSELF TAKE IT OUT OF THE CASING AND PUSH THE BITS OUT,WHERE DID YOU GET THE UPRATED SHAFTS FROM. THE POUND SHOP
MK2Ed Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Think I got mine from West Wales Rally Spares - group 4 suppliers. Mines are Quaife 2 piece 16 spline from memory. You'll also have to change the part in the diff either side where they insert into. This will bullet proof them for running with slicks, etc... Your next weak link will be the teeth on the English CWP but I've only ever had one CWP go on me which wasn't a genuine Ford one so get gen Ford where you can.
dohnut91 Posted June 11, 2012 Author Report Posted June 11, 2012 ok thanks, will give them a try. also found out this after that ive smashed the LSD in it aswell anyone use a bullerproof one of them?? i would think pound shop ones would have lasted longer although probly shouldnt have gone through first and second in the burnout for them to snap on the line, so its me own fault really.
w p e Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 if there up rated shafts then get on to were they came from because up rated shafts should'nt break that easily and claim for the lsd damage aswell
Bunman Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 ok thanks, will give them a try. also found out this after that ive smashed the LSD in it aswell anyone use a bullerproof one of them?? i would think pound shop ones would have lasted longer although probly shouldnt have gone through first and second in the burnout for them to snap on the line, so its me own fault really. I got fed up replacing broken Tran x bits, 16t 2 piece shafts twisting then snapping as clean as a whistle, side gears and planet gears smashing to bits with 178bhp and 100ft/lb torque. As Wayne says they shouldn't break. I now use Brand Engineering shafts (took over from Bob Dayson when he passed away) and I use Gripper diffs. So far so good and the guys are really helpful.
James HPE Motorsport Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 Never had a problem at Santa Pod with Quaife shafts twisting or snapping. Tran-x LSD seemed ok too but I have heard bad things about the Tran-x shafts as Bunman says. Never smashed a CWP either! Like Grumps says, get onto the manufacturer. If they were Quaife then I would say you have a good chance. I know of a guy that bought the skinnier ones with the standard size splines and they broke first time of the line at pod. Took them back and they swapped them with the 16T type and the correct side gears FOC!!!
w p e Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 remember if there tran x the companys going tits up so get a move on before the doors close for good
puddy Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 ok thanks, will give them a try. also found out this after that ive smashed the LSD in it aswell anyone use a bullerproof one of them?? i would think pound shop ones would have lasted longer although probly shouldnt have gone through first and second in the burnout for them to snap on the line, so its me own fault really. Did you tramp it off the line the run before ? That would have twisted them, then next time round snapped them. I have never broken a half shaft in any of my cars , even when I was running the standard English axle behind my cossie turbo. puddy
Kieran Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 Saw this on Retards Club, So i'm guessing it's you? Be good to see you at one of the OSFDC Rounds if you get it fixed
dohnut91 Posted June 12, 2012 Author Report Posted June 12, 2012 Ok thanks all, will have to get onto the manufacturer. So far its never been down the strip, Yeh that is my car, from the weekend, should hopefully be at the retro show in a couple of weeks.
