rusty82 Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 got offered a axle for £60 but the guy dont know what make it is? all i know is it is off a mk3 1.6 gt any ideas guys and girls?
James HPE Motorsport Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 Will be standard English type then!
puddy Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 If you are talking about an mk 3 gt tina,I would have thought it would have the smaller type of Atlas, also found in some european mk2 escorts. puddy Ps. parts from these do not swap with capri type Atlas axles.
rusty82 Posted June 12, 2012 Author Report Posted June 12, 2012 thats the thing. im fitting a st170 lump but before i do i need to upgrade the running gear, kolin axle is way to week as ive killed that with my 1.6, ive got for the front capri 2.8 ebc disks and spacer plates for the calipers, but its the backend im worried about,i want to use it as my daily and the odd track days so any advice or help is more than welcome, i know its not going tobe no hotrod being a mk5 but it will be past on to her indoors once my long long long term mk5 2 door project is done.
deltamal Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 The strongest axle is in the Mk5 2.3 Cortina estate's bigger tubes and brakes, Iv'e got one in mine with Cappa 3.0 slipper diff and Fostec half shafts, I've run over 300 brake through it on the strip with no problems.....
Col-ashtonmobile Posted June 12, 2012 Report Posted June 12, 2012 As Malcolm says the 2.3 estate is the one to find , if its out of a manual fit the automatic solid void bushes , that helps it not twist when you give it some , unfortunately with the suspension set up you really have to stick with this axle type as english and atlas where designed for leaf springs hope this helps
