Nick Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 So i cant decide what engine i want to put into my 100e anglia. Toying with the idea of a 1.8 td sierra lump as no body has done it before and it would make a nice cruiser, but its an extremely heavy engine and from what i can gather from reading some threads, not a very good engine to tune i.e boost increase and fuel increase to get more power. Now ive also thought about a 2 litre silvertop out of a mondeo in rwd format but i dont know what i need to make this work. could i just get a 1.8 cvh and swap all the bits over onto the zetec? Or what about a zvh? im starting to sway more towards this as it gives excellent torque and from what i can gather isnt too difficult to do. My question is tho regarding this conversion, what holes need drilling and is there any templates avaible for me to do this? Either petrol engine would be run on a set of 1000cc bike carbs as to keep it simple in terms of wiring. Many thanks Nick
xrt_si Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 Personally wouldn't go near a ZVH. The CVH heads were crap and if you've gone to the trouble of fitting the Zetec bottom end then it makes sense to keep the much more modern and better flowing Zetec head.
Andy44Boz Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 I always wondered why people stuck a poor breathing head onto a decent bottom end as far as I can work out it was a good way of upping the cc of the cvh but still looking original in the rs turbos etc. I believe the 8 valver also has better torque at lower revs, but if anyone knows otherwise, please say
fezza Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 I think one of the main advantages of runnng a cvh head is being able to run a distributor rather than expensive ignition kits available to use with the zetec head, also a cvh head in the hands of someone who knows what there doing has the potential to impress,i believe HT know there way around the cvh head
mr zefect Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 I would stick to the zetec and head you can use a 1800 cvh sump but you will need to bash out the front a bit on one side to miss the oil pump so it meets up with the sump bolt holes as for the pick up 1800 one needs bending a bit i no when i went from silver top to black both sides of the front of the sump needed bashing insted of one side and the pick up needed warming up and bending more cos the oil pump is different. as for ignition you can use hcs ka or fiesta ingniton and coil pack i used this when i had a dgas on mine and worked well. as for engine mounts you can easly make them up ,clutch you can use 1800 flywheel cos its lighter ether get it machined for pinto clutch like mine or use i think 1600 zetec clutch dont forget to put a spiggot bearing in the crank as well, the only thing that costs money is the water rail but you can make that up with a bit of savvi and also exhast manifold.
Nick Posted July 22, 2012 Author Report Posted July 22, 2012 Well ive decided to go along with my original plan and stick a diesel in her. If i dont like it then i can always take it out and dump a zetec in there as the type 9 will still be in there and the sierra diesel is very basic to wire up. with the zetec, would hcs or edis 4 be better? reason i ask is theres 2 or 3 mk1 mondeo 2 litre silvertops in a local scrappy so i was thinking of getting one of them engines and using that with the edis?
mr zefect Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Hcs is the easy way edis needs a ecu to control the advance-retard i use this with mine the megasquirt n spark Ecu controls it.
