Streetfighter Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 Has anybody got experience with both of these on a car? Thinking of having rear coil overs on the Cortina, but I don't know if I should keep the 2.8 Capri leaf springs I have fitted or remove them and just run the coil overs.. Pros and Cons of running coils only? Should also mention that I have a Milton A frame fitted also..
Andy44Boz Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Coil overs allow adjustability. With them you would need links to secure the axle from fwd/back movement, (4 link) and lateral (panhard rod or watts linkage). Leaf springs are semi rigid and do a reasonable job of all these for general road use, but have limited adjustment over any positioning. If you mean you want to run coils as well as leaves then really all I can see you are doing is uprating the spring rates. If you convert to coils only, then you have as much adjustability as you can get, with the other links, the only way of going further would be IRS and losing the solid rear axle. Either way, a lot of work for a road car unless you have other plans for it.
