kevs capri Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 just bought mig welder and was wondering wat thickness wire i need for plating holes on cars is o.6m ok
Craig89 Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Yes 0.6mm is what you want for body work
kevs capri Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 cheers now all i got to do is practice and learn lol, engine work is so much easier than body work..
kevs capri Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 oh yeagh and needd to break it to the wife ive just bought aa snap on welder lol
kas750 Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 I have a SIP mig and struggled for years with the rollers inside slipping on the wire when feeding.(yes i did know that the roller was reversibile for 0.6 or 0.8 wire)..I use 0.8 in it now and it works perfectly and is good for car bodywork. My biggest variable has been the type of gas(in disposable bottle) that i have used.
kevs capri Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 im gonna go halfords tomorrow and get wire and gas,any ideas were i can get sheets of metal from
Caz Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 I would set up an account with a gas supplier rather than spending loads on the disposable bottles if I was you. Seems expensive to lay it all out at once but it lasts for ages and I'm pretty sure it will work out cheaper unless you're just doing a bit here and there. As for sheets of metal you can get stuff from motor factors but the stuff I got from there was about 0.8mm. Way too thin. I'm using an old tumble dryer at the mo, its perfect at about 1.2mm
kevs capri Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 lol must sabotage the tumble dryer, ill have a look tomoz for metal
59zody Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 Get yourself down to the nearest car recycling facility. (scrappy) and buy the biggest panel you can find for the cheapest price. Cut the roof off something for good tin patch panels.... Welding wire ,stay 0.6 or 0.8 mm on body panels. You don't need to go more on a hobby welder otherwise you need new liner and wire feed etc, for gas I would set up an account And get a half sized ( from full) argoshield 85/15 mix. Stu
kevs capri Posted October 7, 2012 Author Report Posted October 7, 2012 cool cheers for that ill give it a try
