Hi guys

After having my mk1 escort for just over a month now, been on 3 journeys with it now and i have noticed a complete missfire of the engine, so when driving along at about 50 or under acceleration the engine seems to stutter, a couple of people ive been out with have told me different things to check, think im gonna start replacing a few things starting with the coil and HT leads.

If anyone has any other ideas they would be appreciated or on places to buy parts around the essex area.

Cheers Chris

Cheers for the replys guys, its a 1600 xflow on a webber twin choke, ive had a look in the cap all is fairly clean inside and the condenser looks pretty much brand new, im just gonna start playing around with thing, im hopefully getting a couple of caps and coils to try from one of the guys, i will have a look into the carb aswell, this is all fairly new to me being my first old car.

However i was looking to sometime in the future get the engine tuned up properly, go for a full rebuild and buy it loads of nice new performance parts haha, ill stick to the bog standard engine for now for insurance purposes.

i would change the cap condensor points and rotor arm as they arnt too dear and would also change fuel filter if it has a inline one.i had problem with a capri holding back under load and after changine all the plugs and points and dizzy cap it turned out to be the crappy plastic inline filter getting clogged up with crap.

Did you get this sorted?

Totally forgetting to even check this every now and then, but yes it is all sorted now, ive fitted an inline fuel filter aswell just as a precaution but the carb was ok, as was the cap and condenser, its got new plugs and leads and a new coil, new rocker cover as the standard one was pretty boring, new radiator as that split in the cold weather we have had, plus new rad cap that was my fault, will be fitting some rs 4 spokes to it soon after they get back from the refurbishers, looking at full bush replacement next along with some uprated brakes, and get some new front seats, the list will carry on no doubt but im slowly getting there.
