Streetfighter Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 As the Cortina (four door) is now nearing the home stretch I'm starting to play with ideas. The main one I've always thought about is a front and rear spoiler, nothing major just similar to the Escort front and rear spoilers. Any photos of a Cortina sporting these and is it possible to do this to a 4 door without it looking, you know, shite?

Remember its you that needs to like it, not everyone else I knocked up a Mexico type front spoiler for my anglia, a couple of hours fiddling about and about £5 in materials, after I decided what I wanted with a cardboard template to see how it looked. Streetfighter Posted December 4, 2012 Author Report Posted December 4, 2012 It's got a Jap engine but that whole huge rear wing thing is not cool.. Making a smooth underbody template this week though.. Gonna use a MK1 Scrote front spoiler but I can't visualize a small real boot spoiler on a Cortina..

Just being a 4 door it seems kinda odd to have all this stuff, but if Imprezas and Evos can get away with it with 4 doors I don't see why a car worth having wouldn't

Have seen a few 70's refugees on the bay with spoilers fitted back in the day, deffo not a good look Why spoil perfection ? ( Mk1 Tina lines) puddy
Toby Posted December 9, 2012 Report Posted December 9, 2012 I'm with Puddy on this - rather than add plastic to lower the body, just lower it to death. They are better for ground clearance than escorts even when they're super low. The chasis is level with the sills on a cortina - on an escort the chasis rails are about 1 to 2 inches below the sills. Of course it's your car, it's your choice....
Streetfighter Posted December 9, 2012 Author Report Posted December 9, 2012 Can't really lower it anymore, exhaust is 3" and too low. It's more for looks and to try and solve the issue of the steering getting light at high speeds. Hence my concern being more front end than rear.

In your 1st post you said its nearly finished,turbo power I assume with a 3" exhaust ? Have you driven it yet then ? puddy
Streetfighter Posted December 9, 2012 Author Report Posted December 9, 2012 Got the prop and finished the engine wiring yesterday, took it out for a spin, exhaust isn't finished yet though, no silencers and it finishes in front of the rear wheel.. Not running totally well though but that's partly due to me not knowing how to wire the idle control valve up.. Definitely quicker than the warm Pinto it had previously. Not bad for 2 months work and 2.5 weeks off after I broke my hand, leg and foot when a doris wrote my Ducati off with me on it Haha..

As it is I'm trying to devise a way of adding "chassis" strength and stiffness whilst avoiding a roll cage as that'll totally defeat the purpose of my street sleeper.. As it is the FMIC is totally hidden and painted behind the grille. The exhaust is about an inch from the floor and about 5mm away from the rails.
Toby Posted December 10, 2012 Report Posted December 10, 2012 On the rally escorts they widen the transmission tunnel to get the pipe up higher - it doesn't have to be a compromise - the rally cars are pretty strong! Anyway, how are you going to cruise around in a sleeper with a 3" exhaust, front and rear spoilers and a wing on the boot that would get a 747 off the ground? Next you'll be saying it's red with flames down the sides and wheels that touch in the middle!

Just a few tasteful additions to go with an engine that'll finally pull rice pudding skin off Used to be an auto so I've not had to modify the tunnel yet so that's not an option. Frame connectors etc are okay, but no cages, stripped interiors or obvious things..

If its a yb set up,you don't need the idle valve,just set it up on the air bypass screw under the tb. puddy
