stuartp Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 any suggestions as to the cheapest and easiest way to switch from points to electronic ignition? i suppose a furtehr question would be - should i? 2.0 pinto btw ta
SebringRS Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Accuspark I havent bought the kit yet, but many people recommended it to me
Savvi Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 As above is cheapest option, never done it but i think that's was fitted on the Ranger ? Other option is a used dizzy module and a small piece of wiring to fit later standard sierra stuff.
Top Ghia Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Thumbs up for Acuspark, cheap, easy to fit and it works fine.
silverstreak Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 i got accuspark £25 on ebay very good
monkeymoreton Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Run accuspark on mine seems to be fine and I use mine daily at the mo
stuartp Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 accuspark sounds like a plan to me ta
Yeomans22 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 ive got the later sierra electronic stuff, cost me £20 works well,
Savvi Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Like this ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motocraft-Ele ... 3cce3e523e
rayman Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I put a electronic distributor of a mk2 fiesta o.h.v. Into my consul capri pre crossflow. Cost £15 from scrapyard got the ditsy, cap leads & coil. That was 4 years ago.
stuartp Posted January 21, 2013 Author Report Posted January 21, 2013 just watched a video on how to switch to accuspark - looks like even i could do it (apart from the timing as i don't have the strobe thing) just got to make sure i get the right one - just checked and mine appears to be lucas i'm now a bit confused (it's easy to confuse me) as to which one to get
jayremedy Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I have the powerspark setup easy to fit and no problem in 12 months.
puddy Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 Fitted the Accuspark set up to my x flow mk1 tina, car is outside covered in 4" of snow, started 2nd turn of the key today, superb stuff ! puddy
stuartp Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 new question anyone know what type of lucas dizzy i'm likely to have on my 2.0 pinto 1979 cortina? i can't seem to see any identifying markings that match up with anything on it - apart from lucas on the(black) dizzy cap
crapichris Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 I fitted some contraption from the USA of A for a Bosch dizzi found on flee bay. Seems to be spot on and cost me a tenner. Haven't started the car for a month or so but then fired up straight away. The dizzis fitted to the 2l pinto will either be the motorcraft (black cap)version or the bosch (red cap).
silverstreak Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 ive got motorcraft on mine which is black cap and u need the red uprated accuspark coil
Fiesta Steve Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 i suppose a furtehr question would be - should i? Err, yes !!
stuartp Posted January 24, 2013 Author Report Posted January 24, 2013 mine definitely says lucas on the black cap the only markings i can make out on the metal below is DA 9 C (or maybe 0) and 1210 but despite saying lucas on the cap i am now reliably informed it's definitely a motocraft dizzy
