Vista Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 What is best to use on them VHT spray or exhaust heat wrap . Depends what you're trying to do, minimise corrosion or control under bonnet temperature? The paint will be better for corrosion prevention but the wrap for temperature reduction. Or if you want both then you can have the manifold coated by zircotec or camcoat.
puddy Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 B&q bbq paint, great finish and as cheap as chips! Won't burn off either. puddy
cdeane74 Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 VHT'd the manifold,wrapped it,then VHT'd the wrap!
5tox Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 i cant really comment on the paint but the heat wraps good, if using heat wrap ive heard applying it wet helps as i gets tighter as it dries out
RossMK2 Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 Used hammerite bbq paint on mine after a few people on here recommended it. So far so good it hasn't bun't off. Used vht before and it just peeled off. Heard some horror stories about people wrapping mild steel manifolds and them cracking the welds as they expand more because of them getting hotter. Don't know how true this is.
welshmike Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 Ive got a mild steel 4 branch on my pinto, wraped it when i put it on and 3 months/about 3000 miles later it cracked the welds where it goes from 4 - 2. Wether thats cos of the extra heat from having the wrap on or just a crap manifold i dunno though welded it back up anyway, will be getting some BBQ paint on there when i get time
stuartp Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 dunno wrapping the exhaust gives me the fear - i have had a pack of the stuff sat round waiting to go on for a couple of years but never dared try it as i'm sure i'll mess it up
mk2 mike Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 I'm doing things backwards (as always) when I get my new exhaust I'm leaving it on show (cos it looks nice) but heat wrapping the wiring loom to protect it as it'll run close to the manifold.
rallyesport04 Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 i always heat wrap my manifolds altho i have had it crack twice possilby for the reasons above ive also used vht paint an thought it was pretty naff really
SebringRS Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 I'm doing things backwards (as always) when I get my new exhaust I'm leaving it on show (cos it looks nice) but heat wrapping the wiring loom to protect it as it'll run close to the manifold. Thats about what ive done too as the manifold was close to the regulator and starter solenoid on mine My manifold was silver, isnt anymore Was gunna paint it, but it wont be long before I buy my 2" system, so it can wait for now
