5tox Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 ok ... i started chopping bits of rot from the front of my escort and before i knew it im back to practically just a bulkhead with a couple of front chassis rails This is how she currently sits I have 2 new inner wings, one of which is tacked into place, but now i want to replace both chassis rails as they are crap. My question is, whats the best way to tackle this problem? am i best off tacking both inner wings in place along the bulkhead so they line up properly with the existing chassis rails, chopping out the old chassis rails then lining up the new chassis rails with the anti roll bar bracket holes in the inner wing? The trouble is that i dont know if the existing chassis rails are sitting where they should be? i really could do with some kind of jig but i dont wanna pay silly money for someone else to fit my new chassis rails
Admin Vista Posted February 22, 2013 Admin Report Posted February 22, 2013 Yep, that'd be too deep for me too. I'm not sure that there will be many people in this room that can offer that kind of specialist fabricating advice. Gary might be able to help in his room (retromotorsport) or perhaps the guys at maximum applications. Perhaps try a parallel post in one, or both, of those rooms?
puddy Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 Mark Devine at Escortec would be the one to contact, he does this sort of stuff in his sleep ! puddy
Savvi Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 Oddy (think it's South West restorations) has had a proper jig made up for doing these, not sure if he's on here but is on Turbosport. He's a real nice guy and im sure will give you some advice on it
5tox Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 Thank you kind sir, ive had a word with James (Oddy) and he was extremely helpful. I was worried id have to spend a fortune to get someone else to sort out my front chassis rails but i am now far more confident and will tackle it myself following his instructions
