My Old skool Ford ownership began in 1985 when they were just bangers. I had a 1975 mk1 2 door 1300 in stardust silver. It was only 10 years old and already pretty rotten (though nothing compared to what people restore today) shows how rust proofing of modern cars has evolved though as my current daily is 8 years old with not a spot of rust anywhere. I don't have a picture of this car unfortunately

Fast forward to 1991 and I bought this 83 2.8i Capri in Southampton for about £1200. Pretty sure it's gone to the great scrapyard in the sky now as it hasn't been taxed since 1999.

It served me well for about 18 months until I spotted this with only 30k on it on a local forecourt. £3600 and it was mine with the blue 2.8i traded in for it. It stayed fairly standard during nearly 4 years of ownership (I fitted an aftermarket head unit, walnut CCI dash an electric window kit, central locking and a clifford alarm) and but for pemature failure of the T9 gearbox never let me down. I sold it in late 1996 for around £3k and I believe that that owner kept it for nearly 10 years as I saw it for sale in his area and called him up about possibly buying it back. I decided against it though as having had a local contact view it, it was now quite rough. It's still on SORN though so I hope it's being restored somewhere

In parallel to the above car 1994 saw me buy my first resto project, a Mk1 prefacelift 3.0GT capri (no pics sorry). I stripped it down and decided it was too far gone so it ended up broken for parts. Then in a CCI mag I saw an ad for a mk1 3.0 GXL part finished project. One trip to Bromsgrove with Herb Capri off here and this was mine (though it didn't look like that then). The shell was already painted but the paint job and some of the other works proved to be sub standard so I had it done again. I had it on the road by about 97 and sold it for just £3200 (top money then) in spring 2003. I wish I'd known how much classic Ford Values were to rise in the coming years!

Next is the one you're all familiar with. Bought in February 2005 for £7k when I spotted an obscure wanted ad on a forum (I don't remember which one). The then owner had replied with a one liner that he had a mk1 RS2000 for sale but the OP hadn't followed up on it. His loss was my gain. It was already in very good nick but the chrome was a bit tired so I replaced it all and over the next two years the engine was upgraded to a 2.2 pinto from JRE

Which leads nicely into some pics of my van from the recent CF shoot. Bought (as most of you know) in January 2009 and finally hit the road in February 2012

So, the future?? Who knows but I've been rather fancying a mk2 Lotus Cortina or a 3 Door Cosworth. Think I'd get skinned alive if I even suggested it though

Some lovely cars there Scott !

Never fancied a V8 Capri then?

Thanks Dave.

As it happens I did but I wanted a Perana and back then they were pretty thin on the ground in the UK (I don't think they're any easier to find now) and my budget didn't stretch to importing one from SA, especially as it would have had to be bought unseen

I wish I still had that. It had a very nice spec 3.1 litre Essex built for me by a local engine builder called GEM Developments (they shut up shop when the owner retired). It showed a clean pair of heels to many an unsuspecting hot hatch owner when it was finished.

I still hanker after a Modena Green Mk3 Cappa with a N/A Big Block V8 & Auto box to scare me silly on the road. Nothing too lairy, 500bhp would do

Did they make the mk3 Capri in Modena Green? I don't think I've ever seen one in it.

Modena Green was apparently available between 73 & 77, so the answer was probably no, unless it was on a very early Mk3.

Lovely collection of cars you've had there too!

Thanks, I'm running out of space though as I've still got two of them and also have this tucked away, it's how I eventually satisfied the V8 hankering
