flan Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 hello everyone my name is Flan. I am currently relieving my youth and have bought myself a 3litre capri ghia mk3. we went out on our 1st outing in the sunshine yesterday, did 4 miles and broke down. the back axle looks shotand I am clueless, does anyone know what diff spec I would need and is it an easy job replacing or am I better off replacing the full axle ? thank you
Posse Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Welcome tot he site Flan. You say you broke down what happened ?
SmokeEm Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Welcome. As Posse says, give us all the full details of exactly what happened and we will try to diagnose the problem for you
Admin Vista Posted April 7, 2013 Admin Report Posted April 7, 2013 Welcome to OSF, sorry to hear you had problems on your first day out. What's gone wrong? An axle problem is probably beyond DIY capabilities if you've no mechanical experience but is not the end of the world and unless something catastrophic has happened shouldn't need replacement of the whole axle 1
aardvark101 Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Hi Flan, thats a bugger mate, did you welly it.....come on you can tell us we have all been there
flan Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 hi guys, please bear with me as im not rite good with a keyboard or a laptop. I got the capri through a friend. it had been stood in a garage for 5 yrs, was brill lifting garage door and seeing it covered in dust and flat tyres. dragged her out, put wd40 in carb and BANG she was away, with stainless pipes sounded awesome. I waited for the snow to go and o our first trip 4 miles later (and yes 1 wheel spin) I heard clatter and then nothing except a trail of oil, luckily I was jut round the corner from home, to find back diff shot
flan Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 itnt it funny how much parts r nowadays comparing 2 wen we was young and we didn't realise wot we'd thrown away. if only we knew eh
