So, recently I registered in a BMW forum, what with being new to the BM world I thought it would be nice to chat to others.... Anyway the short story is, I didn't feel any love, not one response to the newbie post, 51 views though!!! Just thought I should let you know what a great bunch you lot are!!!! Edit: Don't worry, found you. Nice looking car, I've had a 535d tourer for the last 3 1/2 years, great cars to own and drive............but expensive to fix if something does go wrong

Yeah, I found that out the hard way, 1 week into owning the car and it broke!!! All fixed now though

A very common issue with all diesel BMW s is low coolant temperature caused by failure of the main and/or EGR thermostats. As BMW in their infinite wisdom didn't fit a temperature gauge to the E60 instrument cluster many owners are running around with no idea there's something wrong. Unfortunately the DPF regeneration cycle is dependent on a number of factors, one of which is a min coolant temperature of 75C. There's a hidden menu accessible from the trip meter reset button (Google E60 hidden menu) I strongly recommend you take the time to check your operating temperature, it should be between 88 & 92 at all times when driving.

Yeah it was dpf, was blocked quite badly and it split the pipe from the intercooler to the engine. Replaced the pipe, 2 cans of Werth dpf cleaner and a long run on the motorway, it seems fine. I was having an issue with kickdown even after all that but it seems to have cleared itself. lucky for me im on the motorway every day. Only 1 issue left now and that's the increased emissions warning comes up occasionally, I think the egr valve needs cleaning so that's next.

Which forum? I've been on bmwcarmagazine forum for about 10 years. Although the numbers have dwindled after a forum upgrade/change ( and BMW owners seem to be moving to Audi) there is still a wealth of info on there from the old timers. Lots of helpful people there. :0)

Glad you got it sorted but do check the coolant system temp in the hidden menu as if it's below 75, then your DPF issue will come back for certain.

 

As it's a 2004 car, do you know if it still has the swirl flaps in the inlet manifold?

yes it was the DPF this is OSF so keep plastic BMW stuff elsewhere please  and yes i know this is chit chat but please

you fool ive got a moody one for my sprinter. karen just rip the internals out and and get it mapped with the dpf deleted.
