So, what's my car worth?

Not looking to sell it, just trying to work out an agreed value price for my upcoming insurance renewal. It's currently insured at the purchase price (£2700) but it need to be raised to cover me getting another if the worst happens.

I won't be offended by any replies, just give me your honest opinions on what you think it would cost to purchase another in a similar condition.

2 door 1979 mk2 escort GL.

1700cc xflow, twin 40s with stainless 105speed manifold and exhaust.

Rot free body, 2 up 2 down super oscars, fibreglass Mexico bib spoiler, rear rubber rs boot spoiler. Quite a few knocks and chips to the paint but still shiny.

Front 2.8i capri legs and brakes. With -1.5" springs. Rear rs2000 9inch drums, single leaf Lowered -2".

7x13 revolites & 175/50s.

Interior Re-trimmed (not very well) fishnet seats, rs2000 doorcards and glove box. rear cage.

I was thinking £5k or am I way off?

Sounds about right to me. 5k would seem fair for a 2 door to that spec.

You seem more in touch with reality than most mate. I've heard of people valueing their 4 door with a 1.6 at more before!

I reckon more Mike, especially for insurance purposes.

If you were to put it up for sale at £5k i'd expect your arm to be ripped off!!

Fresh Ashton Mobile engine, 105speed exhaust etc etc

4 doors with that spec are going up for sale for £5k (whether or not they sell is another thing though I guess)

I would probably be looking to insure it for at least 6.5 to 7k, after all it is a 2 door with nice spec

I would say £7k easily, you have to remember that god forbidden if the car got stolen, could you buy another one for £5k in that condition, the answer is a big fat NO

The insurance company will look at the pictures and give you a minimum 7k easily

Thanks all. Ill bump it up to £7k when I take out the insurance in a couple of weeks and see what it adds to the premium. Hopefully the insurance company will agree!

Thanks again for your replies.
