A pinto is more tuneable than the later 8v DOHC engine, mainly because it's been around much longer and there is much more in the way of tuning parts available for it on the market. You should be aware however that we don't cater for the Sierra on here............sure you wouldn't prefer a nice Cortina or Corsair instead?

I kinda like them like  a cossie - :) i had a chance of a black mark 2 rs2000 about 10 year ago good condition drove it but buzz wasnt there midlife crisis i dont know????

Anyway id love a mark 1 escort learned to drive in mams one, then she gave it to me.. dropped a 1600 gt x/flow from a 1600e modified sump and the dipstick to make it fit. good fun wit the 1100 diff and g/box and drum brakes all round YIKES!!!

the dohc engine ur best to rip it out use the 2.3 block remove the blance shaft use a escort mk5 or 6 rs2000 head and cams (or uprated cams) but even on the rs2000 managment ur seel like 170-180bhp with a chip and upped fuel less on carbs

Buy the Sierra, take out the Pinto, tune it, stick it in a Capri, job done. Use the Sierra with a 2.9 Cologne or Cosworth 24Valver.

Apart from the age & type of car, stick around, because it's worth getting a wealth of info here on Pintos.

most people into as u put it classic fords, run other fords the fella asked a question thats all, i think most of the very mechanically and level minded people on here would help with advice, as said ive owned some very nice cars, many mk1 escorts, many cortinas, and capris im not a boy racer but old skool ford needs to move with the times surely? most 80s fords are getting rare and no longer old bangers but classics.

fair play if thats your attitude towards people but it aint mine, i probably wont use the site if my more modern stuff aint acceptable, sorry just my opinion, and im a family man with two young kids i cant justify 10 to 15k these days on a mk1 escort

The OP is welcome to stick around for any technical advice he wants, as are you. But the cars we cater for are not up for debate. It's clearly stated on the home page, it is stated in the terms and conditions that new members agree to when they sign up and if that's not enough to convince you, we even put the subject to a forum wide vote earlier this year. The majority vote was for leaving the forum as it is. The poll is at the link below for verification of this

just my opinion remove if you feel the need

That's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion and the right to express it.

sorry if i started a war of words...

No apology necessary and as above any technical advice you need you're welcome to stick around for
