Guest lagerlout Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 been offered a mk1 cortina 2 door 1963 1200cc going to have a look at it tomorrow the owner says it runs well and the body is good but needs some tidying just wondered if anyone knew of any hidden points i should check for rust/rot apart from the obvious sills inner wings chassis etc also any idea what they go for ive been offered it for £600 ish.
teamtom Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 think you've pretty much got all the rust spots in your head mate. but i couldnt tell you a price
Doc Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 That sound an alright price if its solid enough . Front wings are tough to get hold of and when you do they are big money so check they are solid , Grille and bonnet badge are expensive so make suer they are there too .... Thats all i know bud
Chris! Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 PM me for any details you need As it will be a deluxe £600 probs about right for a GOOD 2 door with no MOT, if it was a Good 4 door with no MOT i would say £500
Mk 1 Mark Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 Get it bought mate........And get another 2dr mk1 cortina on the road
cortinaman Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 Like all good old skool fords they rust everywhere! Structural bits to check: Bottom of A-pillars (where all the sh*t gets thrown up by the front wheels) Top of A-pillars (screen out to fix properly so usually get pugged up) Strut tops and supports (usually been over plated about five times!) Inner sills (give em a good poke) Jacking points and outriggers. Floor above chassis rails and outriggers Chasis rail where the anti-roll bar bolts on (both in the engine bay and from the wheel arch) Chasis rail where it kicks up at the back of the engine bay. Rear of sill where the rear arch joins it (where all the sh*t gets thrown up by the back wheels!) Rear chasis rail over the axle and to the spring hanger. Sometimes the shock mounts in the boot. Slightly less structural bits The spare wheel well. The front wings around the headlights Back of front wings where they join the A-pillars Hope this helps mate. £600 is good for a sound (no structural rust) Deluxe.
martymk1 Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 have you looked at it yet, if its solid, buy it, 2 doors rule

cortinaman Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 didnt get a chance to look at it today to busy at work going to see it friday also the owner said its got consul on the logbook not cortina. Thats cos the early pre-airflow (side lights separate from grille and no vents on the c-pillar) cars were known as Consul Cortinas - and had Consul on the bonnet badge. If its fairly sound it'll be a good buy.
