i have undersealed the whole underside of my car, now im wondering if i should have left a strip above where the exhaust runs down in case of it getting too hot and maybe catching fire. or am i being too paranoid? will it be ok or should i get it all off above the exhaust? has anyone ever heard of underseal getting to hot like this? i know this stuff goes up like a bomb when set alight!

would it not be possible to knock up some kind of heat deflector plate, or heat wrap it

i dont think the exhaust will get hot enough from the bulkhead back to give you any real problems (only my opinion though)

I wouldn't worry mate, thousands of cars with this on and none I know of that combust as a result of hot exhaust - no issues with mine either, underseal pretty stable once it cures ;)

I'd say if you'd just applied it sopping wet and gone for a huge thrash up the M1 then melting / dripping could possibly be an issue but after a few days the solvents should have 'flashed' off lessening chance of spontaneous combustion. Even after, you might get the odd drip but an exhaust (even at 900 deg C) is way below the flash point of bitumen so it may smoke a bit and smell bad but that's all.
