Mrs O/H/C Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I am currently trying to work out what set up ... ladder bar / 4 link would be appropriate for my Anglia 105e . <br />It will be mainly used on the drag strip but occasionally used on the road.<br />Need constructive opinions as I want to get this right and so far had very conflicting advice . Confused. Com
SmokeEm Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I always thought 4 link = track/road Ladder bars = strip 1
Fiesta Steve Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I always thought 4 link = track/road Ladder bars = strip The problem is the "occasion road use" bit. I don't think ladders work to well when it comes to corners, so I guess it's 4 or 5 link.. 1
katana Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I think ladders are fairly old school technology now days - most 'good' drag cars will use 4 / 5 / 6 link set-ups quite successfully plus they have masses of adjustment for axle angle and set, anti dive or squat and will go round corners not just the top end turn off! 1
rallyesport04 Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 if you set the 4 link kit up for sqat you wont need lader bars for drag it will also handle on the road too i found the pic on t/sport that retro motorsport uploaded 2
aardvark101 Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Milton offer a five link kit, although primarilly for Hot Rod racing, sure this would fit the bill. http://www.dalek.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/105speed/Milton.pdf
Mrs O/H/C Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Thanks guys, <br />Now I would like to know what is it that the 4/5/6 link does in comparison to ladder bars ? <br />For what reason would a ladder bar set up not work on the street ? <br />Is it purely down to cornering ?
puddy Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Thanks guys, <br />Now I would like to know what is it that the 4/5/6 link does in comparison to ladder bars ? <br />For what reason would a ladder bar set up not work on the street ? <br />Is it purely down to cornering ? With a ladder bar setup , the axle cannot rotate when cornering, they are fixed in the straight ahead which is ideal for drag racing, and not for the street , you will also need a track locator which those diags don't show. Having said that , Terry Davies mk2 drag car was driven everywhere and it did not seem to bother him ! puddy 1
turnover Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Just put a 5 link in ,so you can adjust it for the track ie panhard rod and the 4 link ,and to be fare wont be too far wrong on the road 2
w p e Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 what's wrong with simple leaf springs and proper tramp bar set up ? far cheaper and works just as well just look at some of the quick 4 cylinder cars out there doing it on leaf springs 1
MK2Ed Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 I would stick with leafs, tramp bars and adjustable dampers (on medium/soft setting)and invest any remaining budget on optimising engine power, gearing, tyres and/or plate slipper (if you don't have already).
Col-ashtonmobile Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 got to agree with puddy , 10sec Terry had full ladder bar set up and used to always drive to the pod ,race , drive home no problem.... 1
w p e Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 lee ask popadom oops i mean tilbrook about ladder bar on his car he's had it done could be worth a phone call
Mrs O/H/C Posted July 27, 2013 Author Report Posted July 27, 2013 I think we sorted it out this evening with our conversation on it <br />Although P. Dom was supposed to be there tonight, but obviously bailed out because of the rain .. Not hardcore like us lot !!
gpcmatric Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 I think we sorted it out this evening with our conversation on it <br />Although P. Dom was supposed to be there tonight, but obviously bailed out because of the rain .. Not hardcore like us lot !! It was a tad wet lol, we must be . Is it ladders or 5 link or tramp bars and springs?
Mrs O/H/C Posted July 28, 2013 Author Report Posted July 28, 2013 We ended up staying until gone 11 ... Did make it over to the tea stand though
PaulMags Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 the only ladders was in okey dokeys tights Am i missing something here lol.
Fiesta Steve Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 I guess it will also depend on what's meant by 'occasional road use' . Driving to pod is one thing but if you wanted a tear up on the back roads are ladders able to keep up with a 4 linked car..
Mrs O/H/C Posted July 28, 2013 Author Report Posted July 28, 2013 I might be doing a little tearing it up on back roads ( occasionally )
Mrs O/H/C Posted July 29, 2013 Author Report Posted July 29, 2013 Well, after lots of conversations and info on here. It's not going to have ladder bars
PaulMags Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 Lee.easy'est way 4 link set up with a panard rod then when you want to drag it drop the the top bar inside to the lowest hole or create another so it goes even lower the lower the better.then when you want to use on the street put it back to the top hole. i dont adjust mine at the mo but it works for me fine. 2
