chunkybutt Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Hi there, sorry to be a pain but i seem to be having problems with trying to post my for sale add i have gone to the right section and when i have entered it it states at the top left 'unable to post new thread' can someone please help me ?? many thanks
Mrs O/H/C Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 If you are a new member then that is the reason. It is required that a minimal amount of posts are made before having access to the for sale section
SmokeEm Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Good evening. Mrs lead foot is correct. We have a system whereby you need a minimum number of posts before you can post in the for sale rooms (bear in mind, it's free to do so) Have a look through the site and it won't take long for you to reach the minimum amount
Stiggy Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 The ideal thing might have been to tell the OP how many are required ?? 2
SmokeEm Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 The ideal thing might have been to tell the OP how many are required ?? You are missing the point mate. The whole point of the 'post limit' is to stop people just coming on here to make a profit. Many do I am afraid. 2
Stiggy Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 I'm not missing the point. The system just makes those that wish to post a For Sale thread fill up the forum with "Thanks" "Thumbs Up" and a whole load of other crap posts, no real content. This is not directed at the OP.

I take your point Stiggy but I don't make the rules, I just let people know what they are. As you may or may not know, this particular rule was decided between Darren and the site admin after much debate with other members. I for one like it but you can form your own opinion 1
chunkybutt Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 okie dokie, thanks for that, think i will go elsewhere as i have no interest in Capri's hence why i am selling mine so i'm afraid as someone said above all i would do is post, great thanks, yes, no and thumbs up to get the required number but hey your group your rules PMSL thanks again peeps
PaulRS2000 Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 The ideal thing might have been to tell the OP how many are required ?? That would be very useful. No chance of an answer I suppose?! I means is it in the tens? hundreds? thousands??!
Admin Vista Posted May 29, 2014 Admin Report Posted May 29, 2014 That would be very useful. No chance of an answer I suppose?! I means is it in the tens? hundreds? thousands??! From another perspective, if we make it very low and then publicise how low, it just encourages people to post spam everywhere in order to meet the criteria. The target is easily and quickly achievable it's just meant to discourage the people who join solely to advertise instantly. A bit like old wobble bottom above, signed up & promptly kicked up a stink on here and Retards Club, then sold her car and hasn't been seen since. Who needs members like that? 1

I understand completely. I've been a member for quite a long time, but not been around for a while due to illness. So I've got the 'time served' I guess - but just haven't made that many posts. Retards Club??! Should be a reason for instant expulsion! What's Old Skool about that!!
Cureforsanity Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Same for me too. I've been having a clearout in my garage, shed, warehouse and various lockups. Now don't get me wrong, I like Fords.......... it's just that the ones I've owned have been really REALLY shit! Anyway, my bag is 50's Yankee sheet metal, Minis (proper ones), old Mercs, BM's and at the moment, Pug 205 GTi's. So I find myself with a few hard to find bits that might appeal to OSF members like trim, brightwork, interior trim and some Cosworth lights and mirrors. I thought (in my strange way) that I'd advertise them on here as it's probably most appropriate and the members would appreciate it if they were offered here first as I honestly can't see me using them any time in the future. Even if that XR2 does turn up that I'd like these bits won't fit and sadly I can no longer afford the Escorts etc that they were once attached to. But hey, like you say, your forum etc. It would've been nice to have somewhere where it said that newbies needed to post a minimum number of posts and how many. Maybe then the OSF members would have first dibs on stuff which could be reasonably priced before I put them on Ebay and they go for daft money. I'd sooner have a quick sale to an appreciative enthusiast rather than stuff to (potentially) go to a dealer who knows exactly what they're worth. Hey ho.
mk2 mike Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Stick on gumtree, that's what it's for. My professional opinion is tha Gumtree is for offloading stolen things. The amount of cars, bikes, TVs etc I've heard of being fenced on there is in the hundreds, and I'm not exaggerating. Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near it.
mk1estate Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 emmm been thinking about this post and i can see both points of view and it is such a shame that we as members are missing out on what could be some real good spares, BUT i must say that even if they cant post thier ads they are more than welcome to this site EVEN IF THEY NO LONGER OWN A FORD, after all we are a friendly bunch (aint we?). Im sure we have a member on here who is under 17 and cant yet drive but we wouldnt turn them down cos they dont own a car. Making me think now...how many members do we have that do not own a OSF? 1
over_head_cam Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 Good point. Put a post up in Oldskool chat and maybe make it a poll
Tackleberry Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 How many members does the forum have and how many of those total post count is less than 5? I'm not talking about new members, i'm talking over say 6 months... I know some join just to lurk in the shadows, but some have ulterior motives. I'm sure those looking to nick motors trawl through to see where thier next victim is, others, want to purely use the forum for thier own gains...in amoungst those, the genuine old ford loving petrol heads. It's a difficult balance, but the genuine members wouldn't bat an eyelid about having to be on here for a certain amount of time, or contribute "X" amount of posts before being allowed to sell. Just my two penneth worth.. 2
Pelikan Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 This is my first post and joined over a year ago ..... (1 less to the countdown before I can sell now LOL!) I joined mainly for the excellent info and I have just used the messaging side of the forum to enquire/buy items for sale advertised on here.
Admin Vista Posted October 15, 2014 Admin Report Posted October 15, 2014 The total required to meet the sales criteria is very low. Get involved a bit and you'll hit it within an hour. It is purely to discourage new joiners first and last posts being "Hi, buy all my stuff please and bye"
